How do you tip at a restaurant that makes you pay first & brings your food later?

Last night I went to an Indian restaurant with my g/f. We have never been there and we were told to order and pay first. They gave us a number to put on our table and then a server brought us food. The server came to our table several of times to ask how we were doing. I was unsure how to tip in this situation. I looked at other tables with patrons who left around the same time as us and I did not see any tip money on their tables. So I left without tipping.

usually there is a place on the receipt when you first buy your food. otherwise, toss a few bucks on the table if you feel your service was worth it. they might even work the tip into their food prices.

Only place i have ate at like that is Noodles and Company, but when they bring the food they tell you they can't accept tips.

If he/she was attentive though i would still leave a few bucks at least.

I've done that as well, some local Thai place, but did kind of feel bad about it... So next time I'm there probably double tip or something, if people actually typical tip there.
But I also got no receipt or anything either.
