How does 1080p look on a 24"monitor?

1080p res is 1920 x 1080 and I see most 24" LCD monitors advertise that they are HD ready.

But the LCD res is usally 1920 x 1200. So is there some scaling done?

Let's say I watch a blu-ray or HD-dvd on the 24" monitor, how does the scaling work?

No scaling on my 2405. Just larger black bars top/bottom. It really depends on the video as not everything is in 16:9 ratio either.

OK. So the HD dvd knocks off 1200-1080 from the top and bottom of the LCD monitor? That makes sense.



How about a 22" monitor with 1680 x 1050. Does scaling ruin the HD quality?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... Maybe it sucks, maybe it doesn't.... Maybe you need to see an optometrist? Scaling will happen, you get to decide if it sucks. I think it sucks, I have a new pair of glasses.

Not really, because with the black bars the 16:9 (or whatever the source image is at) aspect ratio is preserved. You don't have pixel-perfect 1:1 mapping like on a 24" but it still looks leaps and bounds better than SD content.

Yeah, losing 120 vertical pixels of your LCD to fit a 16x9 image in a 16x10 screen is no big deal.

Just make sure the LCD isn't trying to scale (scalers = evil), and is just displaying the image with a black bar. That's the way to do it.

A 24 inch 16x10 monitor showing 1080p looks awesome.

HD on my 22" LG is awesome to say the least. Either one, 1080P or 720P both take my breath away.

1080P on a 22inch is being scaled down to 1680x1050 but the aspect ratio is preserved so there is no stretching. As for the quality, it's up to you to decide. I hate any scaling on my 2407WFP.

When I play my PS3 (or blue ray) I see small bars top and bottom at 1080p. I have a Benq.
