How does a Chiropractor cause a tear that leads to a stroke?

My coworker had a stroke and the only info I have is:

He had a chiropractic adjustment that resulted a tear that caused a blood clot and then a stroke.

How can a chiropractic adjustment cause a tear? My coworker had surgery on his achilles heel a while ago and was still recovering from it before this happened.

While my coworker does not appear to have paralysis or memory loss he is currently in the ICU, scary!

What on earth did the Chiropractor do that could have caused this?

that sucks but his first problem was going to a chiropractor after surgery when he should have gone to a physical therapist.

let's make this clear:

a Chiropractor is not a doctor. They have no medical training whatsoever.

just say no to chiropractic.

Yeah, let's let some high school drop out with 9 months of "medical" school use all his upper body strength to "adjust" my spine, the piece if equipment which ensures my entire body can communicate with itself.

Chiropractic is bullshit. I would never let one of these quacks touch me.

Is that what his lawyer is saying? I find it hard to believe that cracking someones back would cause a tear, but IMNAD.

The info I have all comes from a co worker. I have no idea if a lawyer is involved.

I am definitely anti Chiropractor since my dad was in the insurance business and would tell me stories of all the people getting hurt from chiropractic treatments. My second reason for disliking them is to get a free massage once i had to let them inspect me and the only thing they could come up with was that since my ears were not level my weight was not balanced thus my shoulders somehow needed their treatments. But i got my free massage.

I was hoping to hear how touching someones body can cause a tear. Would they have to press really hard. Or is it merely doing it where he had surgery was enough since his body was still recovering? BTW the surgery was either last year or early this year. But he was not fully recovered.

It is possible and has been documented before, but it is rare. Look up chiropractic manipulation and vertebral artery. It can also affect the carotid artery, but that's even less common.

Chiropractic care works. I've experienced it myself and my father who has always been a skeptic of "quackery" has had real results and felt better (pain gone) after going to a chiropractor.

Medical training or not, it works.

His doctor even recommended it.

There is some evidence that chiropractic treatment may help for some musculoskeletal problems. However, many of the theories and beliefs that some chiropractors sometimes push on clients are utter quackery.

Don't expect to have your cancer alleviated by spinal manipulation.

I personally have fear of anyone touching my neck to crack it. Plus I don't need it.

Chiropractors, though, have done a world of good for my wife's back and neck. The tension in her back/neck gets to be so extreme that only a Chiropractor and massage can get her functioning again.

In contrast, when addressing the symptoms with a doctor, they just give her drugs--which don't work to solve the issue. Doctors, in this case, are just fucking drug pushers.

Avoid these quacks.

Yep, avoid the chiropractic BS, it's complete quackery. At best they offer services similar to physical therapy, at worst complete quakery that can harm you. Absolutely no reason to see a quack when you can see an actual physical therapist or a doctor.

This. Pinched nerve in your neck? Sure, give it a go. Colon cancer? Yeah, no.

Yes. Know 2 people who have had similar issues.
(They both are high ups at Cisco coincidentally.......hrm.....conspiracy???)

His doctor is stupid then.

Most chiropractors know their "science" is bullshit and in reality more often than not practice physical therapy, the same thing you would get from a physical therapist. This ongoing trend is an effort to legitimize since physical therapy is an actual science taught at real schools and has real results. Stupid people get PT from their chiropractor and then, magic, they go tell everyone how good their chiropractor is.

It's like the mob opening a restaraunt, trying to go legit. They still sell guns out of the back room. Chiropractors are like this now. You go in for PT and while they're doing that, they try to sell the adjustment bullshit as a legitimate companion to the PT work they are doing for you.

It's bullshit.

Avoid these quacks.

Ok......
You realize the companies like Kaiser Permanente offer chiropractic services.

A sclerotic artery is vulnerable to tearing with just full range of motion type movements, anyway, since it has lost much of its elasticity and any plaques built-up can easily break-off and become embolism threats. People can injure sclerotic arteries resulting in embolism just doing normal things that involve full range of motion. e.g. stretching, sporting activities, working on a car and having to extend yourself in unusual/uncomfortable ways with your neck cranked around and whatnot

Doctors are even warned about palpating carotid arteries using too much pressure or performing carotid massage in older persons with known or suspected carotid plaques, due to the risk of injuring the artery or breaking off some plaque.

But if a chiropractor injured a perfectly healthy artery, that's some real negligence. e.g. you sometimes see this kind of injury in teens who play those 'choke-out' games. One kid a few years ago died on a basketball court, after his team won or whatever, a bunch of his teammates formed a jam pile in celebration, jumping on each other. Kid on the bottom had someone's arm or leg or foot pushing down on his neck, rupturing his carotid artery.

Vic.. once again you don't know what you are talking about.. If it works, whether you dont want to believe it does or not, then it works. It's that simple. I've never "had my spine cracked" nor has my father.
