How does a KT7 recover from an unsuccessfull multiplier change? I have a KT7 + Duron 700. I penciled the bridges. When I change the multiplier and reboot the Bios shows Duron 700, but if i go in its still set at what i changed it to. I am assuming that this is probably because the bridges aren't penciled correctly but I wanted to check. Does a multiplier fail in the same way a FSB overclock does? 1 more thing to toast your monkey...I can O/C to 750 but not 800. I have the Vcore set to 1.65 . I'm thinking i shoudl go invest in a conductive pen.

Thanks ahead of time,

It is Mr. Nice Navi today.

With the board, what it posts is what you get regardless of what you set in the bios. The pencil works fine for me but the conductive pen is "ALWAYS" better since it is pretty permanent. The only time a multiplier value fails is when you fail to boot, then just hit the reset button and hold down the insert to return to your default speed. Same goes for adusting the FSB.

I know these things cause I went through them all too =]

Don't forget to increase your voltage. 1.5 is the default setting for durons... (i think). I ran into that o/cing my tbird. It's called post. (Power on self test) If the speed you set it at does not show up, then either the voltage is not high enough, the cpu has reached its highest yield(L1 bridges are not so bad as long as you have a good penciling job. Not a lot of curent is passed though the L1 bridges. Now if you do something to your bios, and the screen does not even come up (black) then just turn it off move the jumper to erase bios data (look in your manual to find it) power on for a few secs, power off (even if it posts, if you go back into the bios, it will erase it everytime you restart), put the jumper back into the orginal place, then power on again.

well...on my duron I had to re-do the pencil L1 trick 5 or 6 times before it took. try erasing it and try, try again...

good luck.

If you put a good penciling, you shouldn't have to worry about it. It worked the first time I penciled on 3 processors!! You must have crappy pencils or something!!!!

Make sure you do not have any of the bridges crossed!!!! If even a tiny pencil mark touches another, it could mean it won't work!

Uh....you are going into user-defined and changing the multiplier there, correct? If you are, and it's still showing the default setting on boot, then you don't have the bridges connected completely.

I can't help you there, I bought a week22 unlocked 650 so I didn't have to try the pencil trick.

The default voltage is 1.5v for 600's and 650's, not sure what it is on the faster ones. I run mine at 900& 1.65v, runs for weeks without reboots.

This is starting to piss me off.

my steps (to double check)
1) remove heatsink
2) remove processor
3) erase L1 bridges
4) pencel them up and down |||||
5) Put processor back in
6) PRAY
7) put on heatsink
8) pray to god #2 (just in case : )
9) go into KT7 BIOS and go to user settings
10) 7.5 multiplier
11) 1.6 Vcore
12) Reboot
13) pray to anything I can think of.

At startup it shouws 700MHx (7.0 X 100)
I go into bios it shows 7.5 X 100
GRR!

Now if you do something to your bios, and the screen does not even come up >(black) then just turn it off move the jumper to erase bios data (look in >your manual to find it) power on for a few secs, power off (even if it >posts, if you go back into the bios, it will erase it everytime you >restart), put the jumper back into the orginal place, then power on again.

3 No-Post reboots will reset your Multiplier and FSB, should save you alot of time : )

Ps my CPU runs at about 38c normally and 45c at max - is this right??
PPSS I'm using a .5mm mechanical pencil.
PPPSSS I need to buy a magnifying glass I think
PPPPP(you get the point) I have slow POST set.
