Not afraid of being sent to Iraq, but not wanting to go as a normal soldier. Boring waste of time.

This post demonstrates your complete failure at life. You would never qualify and they wouldn't want you.

I somehow doubt it's boring.

boring waste of time? lol you'll never make it anywhere. Give up your dream, stat.

That 'boring waste of time' is the experience and extensive training that helps the military learn who is and isn't a worthy candidate for future advancement. That definitely includes deciding who is and isn't worthy of being put into schooling for Special Forces and beyond. It's a hierarchy.
You can go to a recruiter and try for MOS 19X, which is the designation for those in training for Special Forces. Not sure how likely one is to get in without prior military experience.

Please, don't waste the Army's time though. With your attitude, you are most definitely not someone I would ever want to stand next to in combat, nor would any other individual in the military. Rangers and Special Forces are some of the most respectable yet crazy individuals out there. They love the shit and nearly all can basically be described as super grunts. The ones I have ran across have all been the most badass individuals, and the most worthy of respect, that I have ever met.
You'd be a waste of the Army's money and probably end up dead because a lot of the training would probably bore you and your lack of attentiveness would end up getting you killed.
Stay away. Please.

Navy SEALs are graduated from the BUD/S class. IIRC, any active-duty member of the navy can sign up for the class. Those who pass become Navy SEALs. That said, the class has a 60% voluntary dropout rate.

Start by going down to your local US Army recruiting station and ask for a "Ranger" contract. US Army Rangers are "entry level" special forces. Once you become a Ranger you will have the opportunity to move into other areas if you are good enough.

If I do this is there any way they can pigeon hole me into being a crappy basic Iraq grunt?

Well if you wash out of Ranger school you're still in the Army so bye bye!

Even if you pass Ranger school you're still going to Iraq or the likes.

You have your choice of Iraq or Afganistan. Either way, you're going to where it smells like shit and the locals hate you.

Most of them are recruited from the Special Forces groups in the various branches of the military. Army Green Berets, USMC Recon, Navy Seals, USAF Forward Combat Controllers, etc...and they are usually the best of the best.

Looks like I should have put a "Currently enlisted soldiers need not post, please" message.

That's like saying I want to grow up to be President but don't want to go through any College Level Schooling, and don't plan on running for any prior offices.

Your attitude right now shows everyone here that you aren't better than that. Think about it, you said that, in your mind, SpecOP's give up everything they have to do their job. In other words they are completely selfless. On the other hand the "I'm better than that" is the exact selfISHness that will get you thrown out of any branch of the armed forces.

You should at least make an effort to finish up Jr. High, then convince your parents to lie about your age so you can enlist. Meanwhile, continue to watch the numerous Hollywood "Special Forces" films you enjoy as Assistant Projectionist at the local movie theater.

Even the worst Navy SEAL, who would never get into black ops, knows eighteen ways to kill you with their thumb. And they are thousands of times better than you.

I'm not enlisted. Training to be an Officer. FWIW, I hope to go either Armor or Infantry, and if I get a 'bad' branch, I'll make attempts to go Ranger, although I might go that route regardless.
I fail to see why those currently in the military would not have the 'qualifications' to post in this thread. Do you WANT honest opinions, or replies that will merely make you more hopeful but have no weight in the real word and will strike hard when reality comes into focus?

Graduate from high school with no plans for the future. Take the military tests and show them that you have a certain moral flexibility.

OMFG!! Why didn't you say so in the first place? I'm sure none of us knew how special you are. In fact, since you ARE such a special individual, you should have the short bus drop you at the recruiter's office of your choice so you can give them the privilege of signing you up. Why I'll bet they'll even fight for the right to put your name on a contract that they submit.

I used to have a co-worker that went on special ops missions. He told us frequently that he did so. Of course he could never tell us what he did or where he went.

Funny thing was that he was about 50 lbs overweight, complained bitterly when he was either too hot or too cold and didn't like getting wet when it rained.

We thought he was full of shit. What do you guys think?

I'm sure most people that are reasonable can understand that you're not going to get into any kind of special forces without any prior training or experience. I don't understand how you can see yourself, from any logical stand point, as being capable of doing anything that is required of special forces work when you have absolutely NO training whatsoever. This is not some game of counter strike or some bullshit like that. You may somehow think you're better than any grunt but in all truthfulness, you're not. You're just another piece of meat until you PROVE yourself other wise.

The only role I picture the OP being able to accomplish in the military is digging shit holes over in Iraq. His attitude in this thread plainly verifies him as being a complete ass head.
