Aside from the whole inquiry not being very serious, who in their right mind wouldn't want to know if there was a way to skip the "entry level" position and start off with something more glamourous? I sure as hell would want to know if there was a shortcut to the top.

I give the OP a . Not for what he actually said but for the flamebait thread that oh so many people came and got their panties all up in a bunch! He only types a sentence or two and he's getting tons of angry/defensive posts.

I don't want to pretend that this was my intention But after the first few posts I knew the thread had set sail for fail, so I went with it.
Oh yeah, sure you did.
That is such bullshit. The way you backpedal, you should consider politics. Oh wait, you said you work for Schwab? 'nuff said!
OF COURSE you think you're special and somehow entitled.

There is no such thing as a "shortcut". Such things are the folly of youth, inexperience, naivete, or ignorance.
Take your pick.

Pathetic sent a note, it doesn't want to be used to describe you.:laugh:

If I do this is there any way they can pigeon hole me into being a crappy basic Iraq grunt?

...that's what most SF start as: regular infantry.

Expect to go to Iraq and be shot at for next to no money

You've already proven in this thread you are not the caliber needed for SF.

Because I don't want to be like every other no name piece of trash over there?

I have no problem with the idea of being shot at, but I'm not going to do it as generic infantry. If that means no SF for me then so be it.

unfortunately while I would not consider the average soldier a piece of crap, from a military standpoint they are often looked at as totally expedable. Until recently only fighter pilots safety was really considered (mostly due to the fact that if captured they may have provided too much detail to our aircraft design and weakness).

It's sad that when it comes down to it the soldier is just a pawn and their death doesn't really mean much to our leaders.

It's like this whole recycling thing in Iraq. NEVER in the course of our modern wars/battles did a soldier serve once he through a tour unless he wanted to continue nor was he put back in right have seriously injuries.

This post demonstrates your complete failure at life.

Because I think it's a waste of my time to be a normal soldier in Iraq? For lack of a better phrase, I'm better than that.

Then it should be a walk in the park, and you'll be there in no time. Hope it's a learning experience for you

i don't think they hire black ops people that are worried about silly little
things like breathing depleted uranium dust, which is what the "normal
soldiers" (mostly, terrified 20-30 year old Americans that needed a job)
get to breathe.

even as a black ops person, you get to be exposed to most of the
health hazards of a normal soldier, and then some.

it's just that as a black ops person, you don't get normal soldier stuff
like PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). at least not for a while.

I don't think you have a full appreciation for the type of mental and physical toughness you must have in order to be in this special group of a select few. This isn't something that you can just wake up one day and say "hey, that sounds like cool. i want to do this." Counter-Strike skill != real life skill. If you haven't been preparing yourself physically this entire time there is no way you will hack it. If this was really important to you it wouldn't matter if you had to start off as a regular soldier...you would persevere. Don't even try because you've already failed before getting out of bed today.

Except for the fact that special ops isn't glamours. It isn't the movies. This isn't a "position" that you can bs through like you can with a regular job. Let's say he gets in, hypothetically, he would quickly realize it's too tough for him and quit. He probably doesn't even have what it takes to be part of the regular infantry and he's calling them trash.

I'm going to say more than I should, perhaps.

But this is a way into something a bit more interesting, IMHO.

Step 1 : Get into excellent physical condition.

Step 2 : Learn Portuguese, Spanish, French, and German.

Step 3 : Train with various weapons, especially cheap and common stuff. Get an AK-47, Makarov 9mm, and an old 30-06 rifle, and become proficient in all of them.

Step 4 : Take survival training courses.

Step 5 : Study African geography and politics heavily.

Step 6 : Save about $10k, and take care of all of your home business now, in case you don't come back.

Step 7 : Take no weapons, don't carry much money, but have it available to you, and go to Cape Town. Look up ex-Sandline and Executive Outcomes personnel, many of which have settled there. If you are acceptable (the standards are actually pretty low), you can make decent money. If you are excellent, you can earn $10k+/monthly pretty easy. Just remember, the day to day quality of life is going to be really horrible, you're going to see a lot of death, decay, suffering and agony, and it will be surprisingly boring most of the time, with flashes of intense chaos once in a while. You will have to surrender your morals at the door, because you will be instructed to do things which cannot be accounted for in any rational civilized mindset. And you may die at any moment.

Just go sign up to become a Blackwater operative. They'll hire anyone who can pull a trigger... (aim not required)

BW is actually a lot pickier than that on the technical side. They don't have a moral standard to speak of, but they have enough quality ex-servicemen to pick from to not want anyone without combat experience.

<shhh!> If we can persuade the OP to go apply and tell them what kinds of Pieces of Trash he thinks our troops are, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll take our trash out for us...don't give it away. He sounds just stupid enough for it to work!

Each service have units that fall inot the SPEOPS community. Some of the leaders are the Army Rangers, Navy Seals and the Marine Corps - MARSOC units.

The problem you face with each you have no experence to offer. No matter what service you choose, you will not go directly into that type of unit. You must earn your way. I have been in the Force Reconnaissance units and have friend with the Seals and Rangers.
They all have something in common, they do not lower the standards for recruitment reasons, they only take the best qualified.

Not afraid of being sent to Iraq, but not wanting to go as a normal soldier. Boring waste of time.

does not play well with others...check
