the gtx460 only looks good because we have had such crappy bang for buck cards this entire generation.
I think that is part of it but lots of people only talk about a certain time.
For example, when the 4870 launched, its msrp was $300. I think it was the 512MB version also. I think the 1GB version launched at $300 also. The 4890 at $250. The GTX 260, $400!
The 5770 is roughly comparable to the 4870 1GB and kinda close to the GTX 460. Its msrp is $159 but it was being compared to close-out, EOL cards that were on sale, rebates and w bing cashback. Even then its still looks good enough.
The bang for the buck doesn't look as good "right now" versus the
end of last generation. Overall, its looks good to me.
But he needs it for 1920x1080. Would anyone honestly recommend a 5770 for that resolution unless the OP could not spend $200?
I posted that I am using a 9600GT (the SSC version) but what I didn't post is that I am pretty satisfied with it. Its more of am upgrade itch/wanting to spend money kind of thing. I don't play all the new games, I usually buy games on sale/Steam sales. So far, I've only come across two games that gave me problems. Bad Company 2, completely even dropping resolutions didn't help. Sold it. GTA 4, I'm using a Q9550 at 3.2GHz so I doubt its the cpu.
I play every game at full detail but usually no AA (though lots of my games still run good at native/AA). To give you an idea, some of the newer games I play are COD:MW and Left 4 Dead/2. I still have on my Steam list (to play yet): Elder Scrolls 4, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Stalker SoC, Shattered Horizon and Call of Juarez.
I think my current card should be able to handle those at native and max/close to max detail apart from Stalker and Call of Juarez (don't know about Elder Scrolls). I think Bad Company 2 is the only game that really punished my videocard. Maybe GTA 4 can be OK with adjusting some setting (didn't play too long).
Its more of a spending money kind of thing but I would like to get a good value for my money. I've been waiting for the new cards to drop but they haven't and I think as soon as I buy, official price drops will come . I might be happy with the 5770 but am slightly worried that several games will come up that won't play well on it so I should hold out till the 5850 drops to $200. But I always think its a bad idea to buy for the future so I guess I should follow my own advice...
