How does this system look?

I'm about to build a new system for myself, but I've been out of the loop for a while now and am kind of lost with all of the new technologies (AGP was still new whenver I built my last one). I spent a few hours browsing the forums and piecing together a system that I think would meet my needs. I'm just looking for any advice or suggestions from anyone before I get these items shipped out. The only thing that I'm not planning on replacing right now are my 2 harddrives (ATA) and my DVD-RW.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA3800BVBOX

EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model F1-3200USU2-2GBHS

eVGA 256-P2-N518 Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

COOLER MASTER Centurion 532 RC-532-SKN1 Black Aluminum bezel, SECC chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX450-PN, 12cm FAN, version 2.0, 2 SATA, PCI Express, 450W Power Supply

I think I chose the right pieces to let me overclock, but I'm not going to be pushing it too hard. Will all of these components play nice together? Any known issues with any of them I would want to know about before I place my order?

Thanks!

The tech sheet on newegg for the EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra says "DDR Standard - DDR 400 (PC 3200)" Doesn't that mean it won't be able to handle PC4000?

Oops! I forgot to mention I'm also keeping my DVD-RW from my last system (Just got it a couple months ago).

One thing I would like to confirm is that the PSU that I picked out will be enough to power everything in the system. There will be 1 optical drive, 2 HDDs as well as the beefy video card.

I was thinking about it. Although I'm not completely sure I need/want to right now.

It would be nice to have it as an option though.

I'd be cautious about buying any PSU that doesn't show you the ratings...I would recomend a 450w Fortron instead of that cooler master.

Unless I am mistaken, if you're not OC'ing Athlon 64 is definitely the way to go. Opterons are only popular because they OC like mad. At stock, they'll be significantly slower than an equally priced A64.

I agree, if you're going to OC the cpu.

What kind of a difference would I get from an equally priced A64x2 over an A64?

I'm looking at AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA3800BVBOX now...

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be going with Fortron for sure after reading the reviews for it.

Could someone please clear up my question on what speed RAM I should be getting, newegg specs show it as PC3200, but would it be able to handle PC4000 as well?

At stock, the X2 3800+ will be faster than the Opteron at stock. The 3800+ is a good choice, and if you do decide to OC, you can just OC it. BTW, cheaper price here...

Thanks for the advice bamacre! I can't see any reason why not to just go with the X2 3800+ now.

I think I'm just about ready to place my order, but first I would like to confirm that I could use PC4000 DDR on this motherboard I've chosen. If not is it really worthwhile upgrading boards for the extra speed?

These forums move fast, does anyone know if the EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra would support PC 4000 memory at full speed?

that would mean you are overclocking your cpu, which would we depend alot on the cpu, but many have had good success with overclocking on the epox, far past pc4000 levels.

It all looks great. Try doing some ordering from Zipzoomfly.com since you get free shipping and their prices are ususaly the same or lower than newegg.com. And if you can find a ULi m1697 (the m1695 Rocks!) based board I would get that in place of the nFORCE 4.
