Ive bought two 5.1 speaker sets in my lifetime, the second was because the first one blew up, it was a cheap logitech thing. The second one is an Altec lansing 251, its got good reviews for its price range, and its served me well, pretty loud, not broken after a year. So how will the logitech Z-5500's fare?? Theyre built for high volume right? I get the general jist theyre really high quality since most people reccommend them and they dont seem to have any bad reviews. They wont blow up like my first set did will they?

They have a problem?? How so? Is it only at a high volume?

Im really exited about getting this 30kg speaker system i dont want to have problems with mine.

I don't think there will be a fix from Logitech for this problem. If there will be, a new revision of the z-5500 will come out but I don't think they can RMA millions of systems already sold.
Meanwhile, filter your powerline with an EMI/RFI outlet, available widely for less than $30 and the popping is gone.
Other than that, you will be greatly pleased by these speakers

Well, considering you have good experience with Altec Lansing, it couldn't hurt to try one of their 5.1 speaker sets. I have the MX5021's, which are a 2.1 configuration, but they've been awesome.

I own the z-5500 system and LOVE it. The only drawback to it is that my bedroom is only like 11'X12' and it gets too loud if I have the volume over 5 bars or so. However I love being able to go nuts and shake my entire house....and my neighbors' houses. I've recently discovered that using a line out cable to connect my iAudio X5 to this system forces me to turn the volume WAY up, thus resulting in some white noise. If I turn my computer off while doing this the music suddenly gets much louder, so I turn the volume down and the white noise goes away. I suspect it is a power issue. Buy this system, you won't be dissapointed.

I just got my Z5500D's today.. and DAMN they rock. The piss off the parents volume is around about 5 or 6 volume bars, and thats only 1/3 of the volume. In addition to that it has BOOST volume which goes over the max allowable, but its dangerous to do that as they speakers can overheat. Seriously, i cant wait to take these things to my new flat, parents can tell me what volume to listen to, flatmates cant  Or until everyone leaves the house. I really wanna test the max volume with some song with a lot of bass. I tried it with that song by tiffany, i think we're alone now, awsome song, and best of all! it didnt distort at max!! like my old speakers did at max volume. Plus the satalite speakers, one of those weighs more then 3 of my old altec lansing's. Quality stuff.

The sub wasent as heavy as i anticipated, but for a sub it was still pretty heavy. I compared it with my old sub, heres a comparison with my old altec lansing 251 sub, poor thing just cant top that Z5500. The entire box that it was delivered in though, that was pretty heavy, and awkward to carry, but ykno thats pretty irrelivent.

Overall, im really really happy with my purchase Im really really not happy with the fact my parents dont like loud music and im here for another 2-3 months ballz... They have to leave the house somtime! Then i can piss off my neighbours MUHAHAH!! Sweet!

YEah, My mum was carving a lamb roast in my kitchen te other night, and I had to stop watching a movie because my speakers popped every time she started or stopped the carving knife thingy.

Took me a second to realize she was using an electric knife.

I have a set of z5500s and they work very well. I've been pretty happy with my logitech purchases in the past, and these are no different. Now obviously, they aren't going to sound better than a nice HT setup. However, for the price and size, they sound pretty damn good. Great for college apartments/houses (might be a little overkill for dorms), apartments, etc... They aren't geared to the audiophiles out there, but they put out some respectable sound and definitely do what they were designed to do.
