I think there are advertisements and spam everywhere, but I obviously ignore them all. I and all my friends have spent $0.00 while on facebook, and $0.00 on it's advertisements.

How exactly is this a huge "business"? Is it just for the exposure?

They sell incredibly valuable marketing data to all of their clients. The data is complied from individual member's internetting habits. It's all anonymous, though (basically random computers sharing the data to other computers, no personal information included). Ironically, this is the least of Facebook's real privacy concerns, yet it seems to be the one that its critics bitch about the most.

Or something like that.

there is good advertising and bad advertising

GEICO commercials, cute and funny, and they get you to call them (Well some people)

Internet ad that pops up and blocks the link I want to click on, GTFO of my way! (nuke site from orbit)

Some advertisements, like those on Facebook. ARE TOTALLY WORTHLESS!

It's improper exposure IMO, and if I was a business lead I wouldn't waste thousands of dollars on it.

Advertising works on some but not on others.

I just ignore ads so nobody is really getting any money from me.

Can anyone on this forum say, "Hey, I'm glad that Facebook ad led me to *352525.xcom*, it changed my life!"

NO

nobody can

Facebook will eventually start charging a user fee (lets give it 3-5 years from now) or it will drastically change it's privacy policies to make $, and then everyone will leave and lemming onto the next free site.

I think I've clicked on about 5 ads in my entire 15 year internet career.

Four of them were on accident.

FB now is also getting a cut of money from games if I remember right now. They have created like facebook bucks or some shit which you can use across all games, at least that's the goal.

If advertising didn't work, companies wouldn't pay so much for it. Advertising works plain and simple and it's profitable.

They're about to hit $1B in revenue. Why in the hell would they start charging?!?!?

You are clearly not their average user. There are people spending $20,000 / day advertising with a healthy ROI. And by people, I mean individuals, not big companies. Big companies drop more than that.

I don't understand how a bunch of nerds, on a nerd forum, fail to realize that the way they browse the internet is not the way 99% of the world browses the internet.

Facebook advertising mints money.

And that's why you aren't in advertising.

The ads aren't worthless. They are, in fact, worth quite a bit to the people that pay for them. I mean, do you seriously think there'd be ads on facebook if they didn't work?

bullshit, building credibility is the best way to sell your crap

then you can pander your wares

WTF is this shitty link with the same picture of that person on the other 100 ads I've seen? Oh that's right, it's fucking spam "AVOID!"

Any business worth buying stock, does not advertise like a goon on facebook.

You want to tell me that www.totalhairregrowth.com is minting gold off of it's facebook ad? I highly doubt it!

I do see something with an established company simply expanding it's base, but thinking you can advertise and get customers is pretty fail. Those ads just scream "spam/fake"

There is no science in advertisement, just people making money off of weak / strong businesses.

Here's a comment you can rip apart that I will stand by

"Budweiser would still be king, even without being king of the commercials"

I won't go to court and defend this position, but I sure as hell love trying to promote it
