i have a really old mobo, i think maybe 5+ years old? i brought this computer around 4 years ago and the only things i've upgraded on this comp are the power supply, GPU (2 times), and cpu. my current build is in the sig i i'm wondering if this comp can last me another 2-3 years with nvidia's or amd's next gen 28mm gpu?

nobody can decide that for you. 2 to 3 more years is a long time so you can certainly not count on running all games smoothly that come out until then. AMD 28nm gpus will likely be here in here within 6 months though.

Toyota is right in that we can't really decide that for you. I have a 3GHz Q6600 which isn't that much faster than your processor and I plan to wait until Ivy Bridge to upgrade. Once in a while I get a CPU bottleneck(GPU is a 6870), but I can manage until next year for sure.

I believe you have room to upgrade from your HD 5770. You could get a 6870 right now and see a noticeable difference, so next generation's midrange and lower-midrange cards should be a perfect upgrade.

Your motherboard also accepts Phenom II X4 processors. Be on the lookout for a cheap 945. I wouldn't expect to do any overclocking, as I doubt the board's VRMs could handle it. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2AVM/#CPUS

But your RAM and hard drive are getting long in the tooth, as well as Windows XP. It wouldn't be wise for you to spend very much money on outdated RAM, so check out used shops for some cheap DDR2.

AMD Athlon II X3 440 3.0GHz, ASUS M2A-VM, 2GB RAM DDR2 667Mhz, POWERCOLOR 5770 1GB, 250GB Seagate, Corsair TX650W PSU, 24" Acer P244W, Logitech 2.1 x-240.
Its not that bad actually.

However the end of the journey for your motherboard would be something like:
AMD Phenom II X4 945 (~109$) 3.0ghz ----> overclock to 3.6 - 3.7ghz or so.

Your motherboard doesnt support Crossfire,... so you cant just drop another 5770 in there.
Youd have to sell the 5770 and get anew gpu thats faster.

You might be best off just doing a completly new pc (motherboard/cpu/ram). However Im sure alot of people could make due with a phenom II x4 overclocked to around ~3,7ghz.

If you want to do a cheap smaller upg, adding some more Ram + Phenom II x4, might be the cheaper way to go. Then overclock the liveing hell out of your 5770 aswell.
