For those of you who are gaming at 1920x1200, how far are you from your monitor?

Besides my setup below, I've brought my work monitor home this weekend (Samsung 22" 2220wm) to play some games on. I've really got no issues with either monitor (maybe I don't know what I'm missing) but thinking about a 24". Gaming and just a "wow" picture are my primary concerns.

The problem is, even though I'm a good 36" from either of these monitors, due to the design of my desk, a 24" lcd would put me about 28" away from it. Not that taking out the sawzall is out of the question, but my wife would seriously question that when I'm saying that I need this for "work"

Is the jump to 24" worth it? Not interested in cranking up details in Crysis, happy with COD4 and TF2 until gtx280 comes down to about $300.

The upgrade bug has been knawing at me all week and I need some help deciding. Spent too many hours this week browsing forums, Egg reviews, vga charts, etc. Options are:

1. Shut up and be happy with my setup.
2. Get a better 22" (Samsung 2253bw or LG W2522TQ-TF are options), then shut up.
3. Grab a 24" and see what I've been missing.....worry about GPU upgrade later. Caveat here is that I'd have a great 20" monitor and 8800gt to be sold......or traded for more beer and shotgun shells.

Well i can't think of any 22" wide that will have a resolution that high. But most desks keep you within 3 feet of the monitor. Its really all a matter of personal preferance. So you'll have to check them out for yourself. Head over to your local shop and have a look at the monitors for yourself to see how far is comfertable for you.

I spent the better part of yesterday looking at 24's up close and it seemed like a close call, which is why I was asking here. I'd prefer to just take my PC in, hook it up to each monitor and play for an hour or so. The salesmen want to stop me from rolling in with my cooler and chair though.

I suppose I'm just looking for thoughts from those of you who do game with 24" lcds, maybe recently changed from 20-22", how far you are from the screen and your general thoughts about your upgrade. Thanks for the input so far.

I recently replaced my 19? LG L1980Q with a Samsung 2493HM 24" and I'm sitting 28 inches away. It took me about 2 weeks to get used to it but that's probably because the difference in size between the 19? and the 24? is huge. I believe that it is going to be much easier for you since you already have a 22?. That said I believe that you should go for it.

Buy one at a B&M store with a decent return policy

they you have 2 weeks to decide

i did that with my SOYO 24" at OfficeMax and i ended up keeping it

i sit too close also

NP it is not too big for me .. just too big for my 4870 .. so i got a CrossfireX3 solution
- the most expensive upgrade for me ... ever

letsee ... $250 for the LCD .. that was reasonable
- but then i had to turn details down i had NP formerly with 16x10 [20.1 Samsung LCD] with my 8800GTX or 2900xt crossfire

then ... $800 for the new GPUs, $200 more for the e8500 [cause my e4300@3.33Ghz is way too slow - now], a X48 MB for $200 [or i am stuck with PCIe 1.0 and a slow 2nd 4x slot for Crossfire] and $100 more for 2x2GB fast PC8500 [since mine won't do 1200Mhz]

Conclusion:

Gaming and just a "wow" picture are the final results

- will you wife be OK with a $1500 "upgrade for work" ?

be careful what you start by "upgrading" your LCD
