How far would you go for a rebate?

Don't mind MIR's at all, have had good luck with them. In fact a couple weeks ago I was sent a letter by Office Depot (I think) saying I didn't claim a $30 rebate for something I bought back in 2007 even though I'm usually on top of my rebates. So all I had to do was check a box and send it back to them, got my $30 rebate check 2 weeks later. I even had one company that did a Logitech rebate re-send me a check because I let it slip in cashing it and got past the void date.

Rebates usually come in for me. However I definitely prefer the e-rebates like the ones staples offer. Those are quicky, easy and pretty reliable.

I've gotten some really awesome deals with mail-in rebates, and I've only had one $20 rebate out of probably 50 not get sent to me. Here are the best deals I've gotten, with the price after rebates, taxes, shipping, etc. listed:

To clarify the last entry, I paid $81.30 for 5 mouses and received a $100 mail-in rebate .

Edit: I make copies of all my paperwork before sending it. 9/10 times when I've had a rebate refused, I call, tell them I have copies of the paperwork, and they mysteriously find the UPS code or invoice that had eluded them thus far.

Some rebates are ridiculous, but the last few I filled out for parts from Newegg (2 different graphics cards and 2 different PSUs) were quick and simple. Fill out the online form then print it out. Attach UPC and invoice and mail. Just wait ~10 weeks for the rebate to come.

The only issue I have now is they are issuing them as Visa gift cards. If Citibank (the issuing bank and my own bank) can't cash them out, then I have to call the number on the back of the card to get a check issued (and more time waiting).

Not worth it to me. I did do one for $330 for a Lexmark small commercial color laser once, that was indeed worth it, printer was half price. For for me I find myself much better off shopping at a discounter like the egg and not sweating/chasing a few bucks around. My wife will send in for 50 cents though.

I've done 6-8 weeks for 10-30 $ rebate
but i think thats reasonable

and then once backfired with Soyo Rebates, that claims a good 12-16 weeks
but I never got back a single penny after 5 months
