I asked this same question about a year ago, and at the time I was at about 650kbs/120kbs U/D real speeds.

Now I'm at:Test running..........
** Speed 1289(down)/244(up) kbps **
(At least 25 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

*** Ameritech ADSL 1500/256 @ 59.00/month

Just wondering how everyone else is getting along; I heard there was a downturn in broadband, but I'm happy with my ADSL, at least for now.

How about you?

(No disrespect, but the caps on the bandwidth if you don't fork over the $$$ is a pain in the a**.)

I'm noticing a disturbing trend in websites wanting to charge a "fee" to access broadband sites. This will be the death of broadband if it continues.

After all, how many monthly subscriptions can you afford? It's really getting out of hand. Speed Test Link

Thanks for the feedback.

Anyone else. And try to include your type of connection and price/month.

Who thinks they found the best deal; bandwidth/$$$?

Comcast cable, getting about 1200-1300 down, 128k up. Gotta love the takeover after @home, speeds dropped in half, lost the newsgroups and they upped the price, whee!

Doesn't anyone have an opinion on the pay per view (byte) services popping up all over? I understand the need to make money, but this business plan doesn't make sense. You can't have countless sites wanting $$$ to access their files. Just think if you had to pay for EVERY channel of T.V. or radio, just for the right to listen/watch. Sorry for the rant, but I'm really concerned where this is going.

End of rant.

Optimum Online (cablevision cable) has the best deal for the $$$ Look at my speeds, I pay $40/mos, it would be even cheaper if I had their crappy cable TV service. You cant beat 5mbps down for $40 a month!
I have a 512Kb fractional T1 at work I pay $650 per month for.

Sure they do, but they aren't available in that many areas. If OO was available here I'd be with them in a second.

I know, but the poster asked who thinks they found the best deal and I think OOl has the best deal. Where I am, I cant even get DSL (not that I would). But OOl is by far the best. On the flip side, their cable Tv service is by far the worst. Thats where Dish and :testing" come into play

I'll take the prize for best deal.

How about 3500-4500 down and 1000-1200 up for $24.95 a month.

Unfortunately, it's only available in my town (Ashland, Oregon. population: 18,000)
It's cable modem service through the city-owned fiber network. As far as I know, it's the only network like it in the country.

Here's the link if anyone is interested: Ashland Fiber Net

Wow, I'm going to have to move to Ashland, OR.
I feel so bad with my 52kbit/sec dialup connection with 32kbit/sec upload.

Finish.

ntl cable modem in England, across the pond, paying £25 a month. That includes downloading some music from Grokster at about 6KB/sec

Bandwidth and Latency are two different things. It doesn't take much bandwidth for good online gaming.

What kind of pings do you usually get?

I have wondered why anyone would get ISDN since it's not much faster than dial-up. But if it means lower latency, that would be one reason.

I'm using insightbb (insight broadband) and overall it's much better than dialup, but I think the quality sucks.

about 1800 down, haven't checked up.

but latency sucks!!!

Your download speed : 3914847 bps, or 3914 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 477.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 3629764 bps, or 3629 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

(I'm at work....... 56k at home - dang it!)
