generally 5-10 mph over unless it's an area where I know cops like to sit or there are special rules, like school zones. I drive through a school zone every day on my way to work and it's amazing to see people just completely ignore the the big electronic flashing school zones signs and drive through at 45 mph.

highways or backroads = 5-10 over or with the flow of traffic, whichever is faster

local residential or business roads I'll generally go the posted speed limit give or take 1-2 mph in either direction

obviously that's in ideal weather conditions with no significant traffic

People are stupid, and are generally lost in their own little worlds, only aware enough of their surroundings to stay alive.

5-10 over.

Most of the slow fucks around me go 50 in the 55 all the way to work. I want to murder them all.

what really fucking annoys me is when people slam on the brakes because they see a cop on the side of the road.

like, do you really think that the cop is going to break away from the guy he's already writing a ticket for just to bust you for going 5 miles over?

On a a major highway, up to 14MPH over the posted limit. Here in NJ, 1 to 14 MPH over is only a 2 points ticket. Police usually do not stop you until you get 15MPH over, which is now a 4 point ticket. Of course, there are some roads where they patrol more often and are pickier. Like on RT23 South approaching the RT287 interchange and the traffic light. Limit drops to 40 there and it has heavy enforcement due to a very bad (deadly) wreck with a car and truck about 5 years back (it is a downhill) .. In towns, I stay about 5 over since town cops are pickier and be very close in a school zone.

About half way through the construction zone I see 2 flashes - the photo radar van that is there literally every time I'm on this road nailed 2 of the people in front of me who are going way over the speed limit.

Man you guys still have photo radar? I pity you. We got rid of it years back and I'm glad. It is a terrible, terrible system.

It's even weirder when people are doing that for a cop on the other side of the freeway barrier. Yep, that cop is going to do a u-turn in freeway traffic, jump the 4 foot concrete divider, and give you a ticket.

At one time I would go with the flow of traffic like many of you do, but I've learned to stop doing that because police will not give you a break for that. Also, we're starting to have speed cameras installed in high accident intersections. Now you get an automated ticket if you run a red due to the red light camera, but you can also get a speeding ticket from the automated speed camera. I think it's triggered by going 15k (~10mph) over the speed limit.

On the synchronized traffic light streets, people here go fast enough to ensure that they are the first ones to stop at the light. The down side of this is that average speed is lower. When I am the first vehicle, I can go 35 MPH and the light will turn green about 10-15 ft before I get to the light. But when I am following people with affinity to red lights, I have to go 30 MPH the whole way. At this speed, I get to within about 20ft of them when they start to pull away from me only for the same thing to happen at the next light.

as fast as traffic allows. Hell, with the way traffic's here, consider yourself lucky if you can hit the speed limit and sustain it for over 10 seconds. Having said that, the cops don't care and no one I know has ever seen a speeding ticket. It is rumored to exist though.

I only got one out of state on the highway and was similar to a scenario mentioned above. Just about to enter a town, limit dropped more than half (down from 50mph to about 20 I think). The road was empty and I didn't slow down until they had already flagged me. Thankfully no demerits system around here. Pay cop a fraction of what the actual fine would be and move on.

Am currently in Saudi Arabia. Can't drive here but I took a cab from Jeddah to Madinah on Saturday. People care even less here. 75mph limit on highways and my driver made the 260 mile trip in less than 2.5 hours. Scary part was when we were going 120 and there were dozens of other cars zooming by. Everyone has scanners and slow down when they know a speed traps coming up.

with the flow of traffic.

which is generally 10-20 miles over whatever is posted

i drive 78-80 on my commute to work its 98% highway, i just set the CC and forget about it, i pass cops on the side of the road every day in the morning and evening, no tickets yet. It most likely has to do with the fact that there are always 1-2 people driving much faster then me, 90-100 that the cops seem to like better

Speed limit, unless the flow is way faster, then a bit faster than the speed limit.

As long as you're using the lanes properly (right lane if going speed of traffic, left lane only if passing) then the speed of other drivers shouldn't bother you.

I drive just fast enough that my tires squeal a little around the corners but don't actually let go.

On city streets, I keep it 5-10 Km/h over. Highway or freeway: 10-20 Km/h over.

Put me in the company car though, I will be 5-10 Km/h over in the city, and 20-30 Km/h over on the freeway. I've passed people doing 30-40 Km/h over, which is incredibly stupid, but I get a power trip out of using the company car. It's especially bad cause I'm usually going very long distances in these cars mid-day, against heavy traffic.
