I keep below that 10+ mark for insurance and wallet dumping purposes. Some stupid 35s I will be doing 50 with a whole herd of others, but for the most part I like to have a few "heros" pass me. Go take on for the team, guys. I'll paypal you a few bucks....................

I got ticketed on the 50mph straight-as-a-drag-strip Clearview once (I was passing in the left lane) for "75". I still didn't feel it was excessive - safety-wise, but the cop talked to me like I was insane seeing I had 2 toddlers in the car too. 2 minutes before that, everyone was doing 70+ on the LIE. He didn't even catch me on the gun - but my traffic lawyer said it doesn't matter (are they in cahoots or what?) - he was able to lower the ticket but the cost after everything was almost the same. It was about the principle of the matter. Caught for exactly 25mph over? What a coincidence.

I will put this in the "New York being New York" category.

I usually do +5-8 depending on the conditions and what sort of road it is. I usually only do the +8 on 65 MPH or higher roads or unless traffic is moving at that speed.

It was ordained by almighty God that Arizonans drive ten miles an hour over the speed limit in all circumstances except rain and school zones. In rain, they drive like embalmed grannies. In school zones, they drive real nice. I don't know what the penalty is for speeding in a school zone but it must involve castration because no one does it.

I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson is a speedway. If you aren't doing 85 prepare to get run off the road.

I usually go 7-8mph over, unless it's in a low speed residential area. Chose the +5 option. I'm in Florida.

When I-10 was widened to six lanes between Tucson and Picacho a couple years ago, I could park in the right lane and go as fast as I pleased. The center and left lane were packed with people jockeying for position. I'd blow by them. It was like no one else could see this beautiful, empty lane. It's still that way to a lesser extent.

You have to learn your highways. In Northern NJ I would always go 80 on highways like the Turnpike, Parkway, 287 and Route 80. On other highways like Route 3, 46, 23, 17 and others - more like 65-70. Each highway has it's own true speed limit.

Then I turned 40 a year and 8 months ago. I became fearful of highway driving. Total straight up anxiety attacks when all my life I'd always gone as fast as possible without getting ticketed. Drove on mad road trips on all sorts of roads, going nice and fast. Now I do the speed limit. Middle lane almost always, instead of the right lane with constant mergers - unless there is a disabled vehicle lane left of the left lane and/or a concrete barrier in the middle. Then I'll drive in the left lane to pass some mofos. There is a comfort barrier then.

It's a crippling fear. Why the fuck did it have to manifest itself?

Speed limit +5. Haven't had a speeding ticket in decades so apparently cops don't care.

Speed limit +5-7mph and preferable in the middle of a pack of cars all properly spaced and all doing the same speed. If you're doing 62 in a 55 zone in the middle lane, not swerving, not tailgating you're invisible to 99.9% of cops. They're looking for idiots doing 70 plus, passing on the right, swerving between lanes, tailgating etc. Just don't be the person that attracts attention, they're the ones that get ticketed.

I came from Rego Park, NY so I know most of the roads and am well aware of traffic patterns and where you could or could not go fast. Grand Central was one area you did not speed, police liked to setup by the Nassau County border. LIE you could only go fast in the latter part of Nassau and Suffolk as the other areas have way to much traffic. Clearview is a nice road, but I would keep speed in check on it, same with the VanWyck and the Belt Parkway. Northern and Southern State Parkways are usually able to go a bit over, depending on traffic conditions. What I usually do most times here in NC is +10MPH at most on major highways (which are usually 60 to 65MPH zones) and when in towns, I stick very close to the speed limits (usually 30 to 35MPH zone) and be very careful around school zones, especially when the school hours or zone signs are on.

I came from Wayne, NJ to down here in Apex, NC in Jan 2017 ... well familiar with the roads in NJ and tend to agree about RT287 / 80 / TPKE speeds. RT208 is a nice road to go fast on as well and a good radar detector will find a cop on that road easily. They like to sit on the shoulder after Franklin Lakes, headed toward RT287 .. And on RT287 they sit on the shoulder as you near the edge of Wanaque, near the Riverdale / RT23 exits (right behind a bend in the road, where you can not see them). I would not suggest going too fast on RT23 as Wayne and Pequannock & Riverdale PD set up speed traps on that road. RT17 you will see the occassional Bergen County or Paramus Police car, especially near the shopping center areas.

25 or less mph road/residential area , keep within 5mph of posted limit.
30-45 zone, 10 over.
50-60 zone, 15 over
65mph and up ... usually try to keep it under 90mph.

Usually try to stay at or under +10. On the highway going out of town when the limit hits 90, I sometimes do like 110 though. Cops generally won't bother you at 15 over. 20 over, they might still let you go but that's kinda pushing it. I feel highway limits should be 100 or even 110, but problem is people are going to try to do those speeds even in winter. in summer even 120 is perfectly safe, but not so much in winter. Though I suppose hitting a moose at 120 would not be very pretty....

Red, from what I have the Canadian Police are pretty strict about speeders. And I do not know for sure if you can legally us a Radar Detector up there.

Legal in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.

Illegal in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick,
Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

I go between 5 and 15 over. It depends on the conditions and what road I am on. Any roads with schools and many crosswalks, I then go or close to the speed limit.

My golf course is right across the street from a grammar school and it's a busy road. Major thoroughfare to get from one part of town to the other, not a lot or lights or stop signs, so the speeds can sometimes get high. And for 99% of the road, the cops don't really care. In front of the school though they clamp down hard. There is a cop there during school hours 100% of the time without fail and maybe 25% of the time there are two, one handling each direction. The school zone is well marked, flashing lights, one of the signs with a built in radar so you can see your own speed, PLENTY of warning to adjust your speed well before you get to the school. They're not trying to fool anyone. And yet without fail every single time I'm playing that course during school hours the cops will nail somebody while I'm on the holes across from the school. And pretty much as soon as the cop is done writing a ticket and gets back into position he'll nail another car. Never takes more than a minute or two, just a constant stream of tickets all day. Drivers are idiots. If you see half a dozen signs warning you about a school zone, SLOW DOWN. That's one thing the cops don't dick around with around here. They might let you slide with 70 in a 55 as long as conditions are good and you're not tailgating, but they won't let you do 32 in a 25 school zone. That's a ticket for sure.

Speed limit. The cops here can be d-bags. Got pulled over once for doing "27" in a 25. Literally, that's the speed the cop told me I was going. Then again it was 4am so he was hoping to find a drunk, but still.

Well, he also lives in a very rural area, so Province laws and policies might not actually be the main deciding factor there.

Depends on the state where I'm driving as well as the vehicle I'm driving.

The motorhome, I almost never drive faster than 60 MPH, even when the speed limit is 80. (Montana and other western states)

Cars/pickups...rarely more than 5 over nowadays. When I commuted into the SF Bay area...as fast as I could get away with...without getting ticketed. Drive the posted limit on many of those roads and not only will everyone blow right by you like you're parked...the CHP is likely to write you a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic. (yes, it's true, they can and do exactly that, even though it doesn't make sense...and it almost never stands up in court...easy to beat)

Most cops will not write for less than 5MPH over, as radar is only accurate to +/- 1MPH in moving mode and +/- 2MPH in stationary mode. The odds of a ticket being dismissed for such a low overage is very good so that is why they wait for 5 MPH plus. In NJ and a lot of other states, if you are caught 1 to 14 over it is a 2 point ticket. 15 to 20 over is a 4 point ticket. This is why on major highways you can do 13 over in most areas with safety (if everyone else is doing it you will usually be fine, but I did see 5 cars pulled over at the same time on I-95 in Virginia)

Speed limit on most freeways here is 65 so 75-80mph is typical. I like to keep it around 10 over but sometimes I'll go faster than that.
