4 seconds with an Athlon XP 3200+ and two 18GB 15k U320 drives in RAID 0.

Not really, I wish I had that stuff. The processor is real but the SCSI is acutually a Maxtor DiamondMax 9+.

People are confusing WAKE with BOOT.

Folks, this is from a completely powered off state to Windows. Not from Hibernate or Sleep or Standby.

The motherboard most go through POST.

Before you call BS do some research.

A) The system is brand Spanking new
B) It's overclocked
C) The HD is recently Formatted/Fresh OS install
D)Everything is Updated
E)Minimal of services and programs run during bootup (i.e. only what is necessary)
F)Raptors are nice
G) There is a program out there in the latest MaximumPC magazine that analyzes your bootup and moves drivers around to reduce bootup time..i'll post that in a little bit.

So yeah, Call bs elsewhere. Thank you

So you're saying your mobo POSTs, and your RAID BIOS boots, AND Windows loads all in under 8 seconds???

Sorry, but any mobo I've seen takes at least 10 seconds to POST and that's with quickboot turned on.

I have a brand new box with a fresh install on a Raptor RAID-0 array running a 3.2GHz P4c on a P4C800-E with my memory at 2-2-2-6. And from power off to Windows is 39 seconds.

It takes somewhere between 20-30 seconds from flicking the switch on to the Windows login screen on my system.

I find that very hard to believe as well. More likely it's coming out of sleep/hibernate instead.

There, I said what you subliminally wanted to know.

I'm a girl, so I hope your penis is bigger than mine.

I had an old Gateway computer with a 800 Mhz Pentium that could boot up WinXP in 5 seconds w/o post, and about 10 counting post. Yet my current 2.4 Ghz computer with 7200 RPM 8 meg cache maxtor hard drive and Gig of Crucial ram takes well over a minute.

The lesson?
Speed of the hardware does not mean everything when it comes to Windows.
It pisses me off tho, Since that Gateway, I haven't had one computer that boots in less than a minute.

I need a good registry editor and locker, maybe that will make a difference.

1 min 55 sec from hitting power button to desktop with no hourglass. That time includes login time of about 3 sec.

Specs are in my sig.

Mine boots in 11.9 seconds plus the post which is no more than 5 seconds. So just under 17 seconds.
Actually I've never used suspend or hibernate before.
Of course I have to admit this is a recent install, maybe a month and a half ago, and I defragged this week and ran bootvis to "optimize" the boot process. I'm not sure if there's any better way to improve the boot speed short of using bootvis, but 17 seconds is pretty good. I hit the power button, go take a piss and by the time I'm back, it's up and running.

I had a friend with an Asus Amd board i don't know which one, but post was literally less then a second. You gotta sit there ready to pounce to get into the bios. When you started up the FIRST thing you saw was the windows bootscreen.

Approx 30 sec. I usually don't shut in completely down I go to standby, then it's about 5 sec.
