Anybody who knows what they are doing and picks the right car and spends the money in the right places can get into the 11s with little effort these days. Just a engine swap with no mods in a Civic hatch can get 12s for under 10 grand. Bolt ons to a stock 03 Cobra can get 9s and 10s for under 30 grand. I'd say if you were in the 12s youd be in stock Viper, Vette, Cobra territory, and be able to smoke just about any normal car on the road including popular 'sporty' cars that are trendy with teens.

Cliffs: "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?"

I agree with you though. Everyone who talks about twisty mountains roads just has a slow car and they know it. You always hear about people talking about (to name just 2 examples) how their Acura or BMW is better because of better handling... so why are people in those cars always revving at me at a red light on a straight with a merge up ahead?

1. They're idiots.
2. They're high-schoolers.
3. 2 is redundant, ignore it.
4. They haven't driven anything faster than what they're sitting in, and thus it is totally beyond their comprehension that such a car can exist.
5. See #3 re: #4 being redundant to #1.
6. The sound of a blown V8 gives me wood, and I know you won't deny me the pleasure of hearing it.

City roads and highways are straight with lots of stops and short hops to the next stop. Thus low end torque and straight line acceleration is where it is.

Personally, I like flying around corners and moving swiftly through clogged traffic. The guy with the LS2 angrily revving at me from a few car-lengths back on the interstate because he can't place his car properly is having a lot less fun that my piddly little 1.7L zinging along in front.

LOL it will be a while before I have time slips or video now...

I'd claim I could run (at least the car anyway) 10s on drag radials, 9s on slicks, should be doable with 6 spd and IRS even. But I won't without slips to back it up. And I'll never get an official slip now... Finally took it to the track and found out that a cage is required in convertibles faster than 13.99 (I thought it was 10.99 for all cars) and even a stock '03 Cobra 'vert is 12s so I didn't even get past tech :|

A cage in a vert isn't something I'm willing to do.

I've been on the hunt for a nice low mileage '03 DSG coupe for 25k or less. Seems people rarely sell DSG Cobras. I'll leave the KB 2.4 when I sell the vert and upgrade to a 2.8 or a Whipple 3.4 =D

I got the vert because I just wanted a classy but mean cruiser, but now that I've got my hands dirty, I want a real car now (ie: coupe). A cage and rear seat delete would feel right at home in a coupe, I'd save 125 lbs, and would feel better about beating on a stronger coupe unibody.

I've also been pondering just going all out and going with a wet sleeved VT 324" big bore stroker with billet internals, etc... see if I can break 1000 RWHP on 93. One of their in house test engines is making 1400 HP/~1100 TQ on a engine dyno with only 20 psi (ie: pump gas compatible boost level) Don't know if I wan't to start blowing that kind of money on one car though... so much for 'just bolt ons'. Kinda wanna get a 91 MR2 Turbo and play with a 3S-GTE too =D But I have a hard time paying $7,000+ for a 16 year old car with 150,000+ miles

I also want a 73 Falcon XB GT coupe with a 351, and a JZA80 Supra, and... good god make it stooooooop!

I'll drop the tranny when it fails. That's pretty much inevitable, lol. When that day comes, I'll go back with some 3.29s, a 3000 stall and hardened parts

I'm talking things like:

-rear seat and seat belt hardware (optional visible change)
-lighter front seats (optional visible change)
-light weight sheet metal track wheels (optional visible change, need with slicks anyway)
-spare tire, jack, brackets
-gel type battery
-tubular suspension components
-aluminum block
-aluminum or composite drive shaft
-2 piece rotors
-sheet metal bellhousing (lighter and required for lower ETs anyway)
-aluminum flywheel (if you have enough bottom end to launch good)

If you are running with a street car with a chromoly cage you might as well get rid of all the redundant and heavy side impact support beams, etc.

The driver seat alone in my Cobra is like a 65 lb reduction if I were to replace it with a Sparco/Momo/etc. I don't like power seats anyway, take too long to wait on a motor when you can just flip a lever and put it where you want it instantly.

Most cars you can shave a good 300 lbs or more without altering stock comfort, appearance, or safety by doing 1:1 discrete replacement with lighter, stronger, simpler (ie: more expensive) parts. Still get to keep the carpet and A/C, etc Many parts are a result of cheap or lazy engineering. ie: 20 lb iron bracket that does nothing but hold the alternator, stuff like that. How much does that power antenna assembly weigh and how often do you even listen to OTA radio? Does the crank pulley of a internally balanced V6 have to be made out of solid iron? etc.

Thats the diff between a fully equipped 3500 lb 'pig' and a still fully equipped 3200 lb Vette if you look at like that =D Or the diff between a 13.2 and a 12.8.

Ricers take out a headlight, carpet, headliner, console, emblems, AC, PS, mirrors, windows, etc. to make the most out of their stock 105 HP engine, then add it back on with a 100 lb facia, 150 lb wing. Meanwhile summer comes along and they are baking, surrounded by their bare sheet metal vtec oven *snicker*

Hmm... looks like the old 99 Mustang GT 5 speed might be able to hit high 13's/low 14's. It's amazing how much the LS1 powered cars of the same era can pull away at the top end...

The mustang is pretty slow above 90mph, but it's not like I drive it that fast very often... I don't even really use 1st gear that often

best time at the track with a horrible tune was a 14.0 @ 97 with a 2.0 60'. It should be good for a low 13 high 12 at 110 or so with a good tune.

I didn't have my WBO2 in at the time so I couldn't get a lock on the A/F and I was still learning to launch my six puck.

AWD + Grabby clutch = Unforgiving launches.

0-60 ~4.5 (i have an annoying shift at 50mph which slows it down a little)

not sure my drag time i dont drag, i mainly autox or take it to la junta raceway. or pikes peak speedway. if i had to guess itd do a 1/4 mile in mid 10's.

0-60 in 4.5 and mid 10's?

Please don't pull times out of your ass.

i pulled the 10s out of my ass because ive never ran a 1/4 mile but the 0-60 is true. its only 1.5 seconds quicker than my car stock so how is that so unbelievable? specially with the t51rspl

0-60 in 4.5 is low 12s

Even that is stretching it, unless the car is severely traction limited.

For instance, the 2006 BMW Z4M does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, but quarter mile in 13.6. M3's a tick or so faster to 60 and mid 13's as well. Both have reasonably good traction, average gearing, and excellent aerodynamics (just like the FC).

I thought the Z4 was a car for the twisties, not a fast straight line car

2003 Cobra is factory rated as 0-60 in 4.5s and 12.7 on Goodyear Eagle F1s, thus severely traction limited. I was thinking 0-60 for a stock Cobra was 4.7s though so being 2/10ths off I'll say mid 12s instead of low 12s.

Either way thats a boxy non aerodynamic heavyweight with lots of drag at the top end, so I'd guess something like a RX-7 would be faster than 12.7 with a 4.5s 0-60.

You know, I've done mid 12s (proof on page 1), my 1/8th is 8.0@86mph (will be happy to break 7s), and I have no idea what my 0-60 is. Street racing or Drag Strip Racing it doesn't really matter though.

12s seems to put you at a pretty decent spot though, for an LS1 it doesn't require much and on some it doesn't require anything. Running 12s will beat about 95% of cars at a stop light race.

For most of the 03/04 Cobras that I have seen at the track, they usually run high 12s stock with a good driver and even low 13s with an average driver. Tires will of course improve this.

My Kenny Bell will beat just about anything besides a Veyron from a dig, that includes the Z06.

That being said, as soon as I get my hands on a Comp Orange coupe I want to TT the biatch and run in the low 9's with 25+ lbs of boost, race gas like others have.

Anyway my best DSG time was 11.05, stock F1 tires which suck, powershifting. I would buy some Hoosiers, but since it has been a cold winter here I have not gotten around to it.

Anyway there is a lot of BS going on in this thread.

+1 for fellow Terminator driver  DSG coupe? Thought your DSG was a vert? Is this your third? I want a coupe, can't even pass tech for one run with a vert and no cage...

I don't know about the new LS7 Z06 though... 10.85 on DRs factory stock and n/a! The LS8 is going to be a blown LS7 putting down 650 HP on pump gas in a 3,200 lb car with superior aerodynamics...

For the very first time since I got my Cobra I'm kinda scared Think what a intake, exhaust, pulley and tune will do with a factory built and blown 427!! At least it's more in the exotic class and I'll probably never see one around here... Hahah it can waste any Porsche on any euro road course and beat a Ferrari from 0-100-0 for 1/3 the price. Whats this about American cars suck? Leaf springs and push rods > 'exotic technology' LMFAO

Anyway I better start saving up for that VT 324 heh. Those guys are making 1400 HP with only 20psi, ie: good for pump gas. Should be good for 1000+ RWHP

Are you seriously asking what kind of car he has?

2004 Honda Accord
160hp 2.4L K24

1/4 mile = approx. 16 seconds? I could care less how fast it is.

As soon as I posted I saw his user name and I was like...duh. I was too lazy to edit my post however.

EDIT:

After reading another section in here, M4H, I'm one of those people that has a higher belief that performance on a curved track (a mountain pass or touge could be considered one) is better than a straight-away. They also test the driver's technique better than just testing his ability to shift at the proper time. You know if they end up in a ditch or off the tarmac, they're probably one of those people that you mentioned (the overzealous high school fast and the furious type ).

And melchoir, I want to know what's done to the TA

Intake/Full Exhaust/Stall Converter..
I can go into specifics if necessary. I've also changed catbacks since that video was taken.

The car really should be capable of faster passes as it sits, but since it's my DD and I drive it to the track and back, I usually have most of my tools in the hatch when I race just incase.
