Kinda outdaed, but can anyone tell me the fastest CPU that a TX motherboard can support? It is a 66 bus only. K6-III 333?

A little OT...

Is the "TX" the chipset which only uses 64mb of memory (cacheable)?

Yeah, I think the TX has only 64 MB cacheable. And wasn't it the HX that had 128?

Whats your highest multiplier, I have a tekram tx with a 5.5 & 75 FSB, ran a K6-3 @ 415..

Tom's Hardware has an article about this. I remember him saying that the K6's interpret the multipliers different. So, even if you only have a multiplier of 3.0 the k6 may interpret it as a 6 and get you 498 w/ a fsb of 83. Sorry I don't have the link.

The highest intel CPU that it will support is the intel Pentium 233MMX. However, depending on which model you have you might be able to overclock that all the way to 300MHz(or more).

As for AMD CPUs, I'm not sure, but if the Asus P55T2P4 supports the K6-2+ 500MHz, then there's a high chance that a TX motherboard will too.

As for Cyrix/Centuar/IDT/Rise/etc CPUs, I have no clue, but you shouldn't even be bothering with those.

As for cacheability(is that even a word?) the TX chipset only caches 64MB of your main memory, and is non upgradeable. The HX chipset also caches 64MB by default, but this is upgradeable to a 512MB cacheable limit via a TAG SRAM upgrade.

... and again, all that cacheability fun only affects the cache on the mainboard. The cache(s) in the CPU cache the full range, so the performance loss isn't as much as some might think. Not having enough RAM for your programs is a LOT worse.

K6-2 processors have a maximum multiplier of 6.0x, available by jumpering what used to mean 2.0x in older processors. So a non-overclocked Intel TX board can run those at 400 MHz, yet still needs to have 2.2V support and a K6-2-aware BIOS.

If I remember right the reason the VX/TX chipsets support only a 64MB cache area is because there wasn't support for a cache TAGRAM chip on it? The HX chipset has it I believe. Not sure... Feel free to quote me wrong.

depending on the FSB, it can go up to as high as 500mhz. if you install a k6-3, then it can cache up to 4gig of memory.

the k6-3 remap the motherboard 2x multiplier to 6x, and say that your mb support 83mhz fsb, and you have some pc100 ram, then you can get 83x6=500mhz. very nice speed.

i had an asus tx-97 running all day long at 500mhz b4. the k6-3 is particularly powerful in cpumark.
