Just wondering what's the fastest stable speed that I can run a tbird at since I've heard that they aren't 100% compatible with each other at high speeds. Thx in advance

T-birds were never designed to run on a k7v,they made the K7V-T for that.

But i have seen others go as high as a 800mhz t-bird on a K7V,any higher and the cpu does not even post.

Better sell your K7V if you can & get a socket A board.

Either that or I can sell my K7V and get a K7M.

What's the disadvantage of doing that?

750 - 800 is about as fast a Bird will run on the K7V.
However, there is a mod for the K7V to turn it into a K7V-T.
All Asus did to make the T was add some caps and resistors to the V.

From K7V to K7m you gain T-bird support.

From K7V to K7m you loose 4X agp.

That's about it.

If you can trade for a K7M then by all means go for it.

Hmmm, at the very least I think I can sell my k7v and buy a k7m and still make a profit. Last time I checked the kx133 boards go for more than the irongates... I wonder if anybody will trade me in the fs/t forums

The K7M was one of the worst mobos that ASUS has ever built. It is a real bitch with power supplies. For some reason ASUS derived both the +3.3v and the +5v all from the +5v line. This puts a tremendous load on the Power Supply +5V output. Second, the mobo is very picky about RAM. Third, versions of the K7M with sound had a problem generating excessive noise on the +5sby line. Many good quality supplies just shutdown with this excessive noise. Not a good mobo. The much malaigned FIC SD11 at rev 1.08 is a better choice.

Hmm....there really isn't a set speed. Some people got 1 GHz TBirds running, some can't even get 700 MHz. I couldn't get it to work with an 800 myself. I ended up exchanging the board for a K7M, which has worked flawlessly. The only like performance differences between the boards are AGP 4x and 133 MHz RAM. So you might as well try it out, and if it doesn't work out, just exchange for the K7M.

YAY!! well i just got done after like 3-4 hours of talking to the guy but I finally posted my t-bird 700@935. You have to change the voltage through the motherboard and dip switches through the motherboard also and then mess around with the gfd. Anyways here my final settings

Motherboard:
1.90v
8.0? (I'm not sure but there are 4 of them you leave number 1 2 3 down and just put 4 up and its the highest your MB can go)

I don't know what it is at

GFD:
1.90v
8.5 Clock Multiplier

Currently running @935

IT IS SLOT A TBIRD ON K7V
