How good is civ 4?

Awesome game, but a little buggy. Might wanna wait for the first patch to come out if you're easily frustrated. Other than that. FVCKING AMAZING.

To be fair (beyond the widely reported ATI issues) I think the game if it can be played is quite good. But literally thousands of players have issues caused by nothing other than the rush out of the door which means they cant play their paid for game. Mis-labelled discs in the US and Europe, the british DVD version actually can only be run if you use hacks from the warez-scene if you have nero installed and if the wind blows in the right direction.

Are you saying that it won't let you play the game simply because it detects that you have Nero installed on your PC?

I know some games don't like it you have an emulator installed (like Alcohol or Dameon Tools), but with Nero that doesn't make any sense.
Or does Nero7 Ultimate include an emulator?

I have nero, alchohol, CloneCD and daemon tools installed, and have no problem running Civ4.

Correct - but again who the fook are they to decide what you have installed, both alcohol and daemon have many uses outside of piracy

Not sure how your statement that running Nero causes problems with Civ4 is more enlightening. I run Nero, I have no problems, thought the original poster may want to know that its not neccisarily the case that nero breaks Civ4.



If you are having problems, you should try downloading the image from another Torrent and try again (or just be crazy and buy a copy of the game).

It is payed for... not a copy.

Thats the thing that drives me nuts is that I would probably be able to play the warez version.

Copy protection is driving many people into the arms of the warez scene as its more and more frequently the case these days that you cant play the paid for version because the of the ridiculous copy protection schemes which bother the warez people for all of 30 secs while they crack it, meanwhile the paying customer is left unable to play.

Do you have a Nero service running? Like a CD loader or DirectCD or whatever it is that Nero comes up with? Check startup folder and Run > Msconfig. The game might be detecting something running in the background. I too have Nero and the game runs fine. The only thing I could think of was that I turned off all of Nero's services.

I returned it to Game (UK equivalent of the Electronics Boutique) yesterday and asked the guy whether they had many others being returned.

His answer? "Yeah most of 'em"

Funny thing is they actually have a no returns policy and yet he said they can't argue with people when the DVD cant even be read

Says it all I think
