How good is the Sony G400?

I was planning to get a Samsung 700NF for my dorm room, which would be around $240 after shipping. However, I just found a Sony G400 for $250 plus tax. So how much better of a monitor would the G400 be than the 700NF? Is it worth the extra price, size, and weight? Thanks!

its a great monitor. i have one, i paid almost $600 when i bought it. It has dual inputs, useful if u have 2 comps. It'll be much better than the 700nf. The trinitron fd tube is very good. The drawback is if u can't stand the 2 lines on the trinitron tube, then don't buy it. Its pretty heavy. If u don't have the space in your dorm room, u might reconsider.

Sukhoi, like grimreaper19 said, if you don't mind the 2 lines from the Trinitron tube go for the G400 [I run one as well]

Hmm, I think I'll go with the G400 then if it's in stock (it's supposed to be). On CNet there were some complaints on geometry problems and brown tints in the corners. Has anyone here experienced these problems?

Sam's Club should have the Sony G400 19" for ~$250. It's item # 132105, and there is a 1-day membership available at http://graphics.samsclub.com/images/guest-pass.jpg. Go into their "click 'n' pull" section and see what Sam's Club near you has the monitor. Not all of them carry it...the closest to me is an hour a way.

Tried a KDS and a Philips 109B20, returned them both. Kept the sony g400

Isn't the G420S an upgrade from the G400? I just assumed that the G420S was the next in the line. I'm keeping my eye on the prices for that one.

Yes, the G420 is an updated version. But for $250 the G400 is a great deal.

I have had mine for about 9 months, luv it. You don't even notice the lines once you get used to it. Only paid $525 incl.tax. Found it by accident when Office Depot was closing out their Sony monitors.

I picked it up earlier tonight and am loving it! Much better monitor than my old 15" Dell Trinitron. But 1600x1200 is really really small. I might have to drop down to a slightly lower resolution..
