How good is your company's 401k matching?

I put in 5% of my gross, they put in 4%. Additionally, we have a stock purchase program for company stock with a 50% match up to 10% of your gross. So I put in 10% and the company puts in 5% towards my 401k in company stock. The 10% I purchase in company stock can be sold quarterly.

Is your matching pre tax or post tax?

The University of California system doesnt have a 401K plan but they have a DCP plan where they take a percentage of money pretax out into your retirement fund. None of it is "matched" per se.

a local university here puts in $10k......free.....regardless of employee match. then they match whatever you put in 100%.

It's pretty avg. We used to get profit sharing, but that was dumped this year in favor of a pension.

They're STARTING a pension plan NOW? Weird. All of the big american companies seem to be dropping pensions now, in favor 401k plans with 100% matching.

I used to work for a university that matched 2 to 1 up to 5% so if I put in 5% they matched it with 10%. It was awesome.

But they give me 10% automatically in a pension through an ING or TIAA 401a.

Wow, you guys have some pretty generous plans.

The best you'll get out of ours is a free 3% if you put in 6%.

I've been putting in 6% for the last few years and have a nice $40k saved up, not a bad start.

Good companies do 100% up to 5% or so. My company sucks. It's like 50% up to 4% and 25% up to 6% or something retarded like that.

But I also have a 1.5%/year defined benefit pension...which is excellent.

Fully vested takes 5 years.
