Got the authorization to retire the 02 Max SE and get a new G37 Sport (6 speed/4 door) and can only find one within 200 miles and it is some type of ugly Teal color. Are these always that difficult to find or do they have to be ordered?

UPDATE 7/27/2010

We went and test drove the G37X S sedan and was severely disappointed. The interior is nice, the fit and finish were superb, the drivetrain sucked. The 3.7 hooked up to the 7 speed auto with paddle shifters (pure gimmick) was anemic. My 3.5 VQ seemed to have more punch but mine does have the 6MT. I really wanted to like the G but could not see spending $40K on something I didn't absolutely love.

We will probably see if there are good discounts on the 335i this fall/winter or wait until we can driver the G with the 6MT. Wife does not like the Evo or STI so I am exploring other options for a fun family sedan.

many dealerships order 1-2 and they normally sit on the lot for a LONG period of time. Its not a high selling combo.

Test drive the auto and/or that teal one and then order your own.

It's the tranny.

This. You're going to have trouble finding it for a couple reasons.

1) The G37 hasn't been out that long.
2) The automatic transmission is, by far, the most popular choice, especially in the sedan models.

I did a quick search on autotrader.com and found 87 G37's for sale within 50 miles of me. Coupes were highly over represented in the results, probably 60-70% of the results were coupes (and most of them are autos) and all the sedans that I saw were automatics.

yeah it's hard to find a RWD sedan, let along a manual. i think u have to settle with either a G37x or a G35 (the 07 is the say style as G37)

Have you driven a G37 with a stick...coupe or sedan?

The reason I ask is that the 370Z with the same engine/manual transmission transmits a lot of vibration in the shifter and the pedals at the higher RPM's. Don't know if they've done a lot of work to squelch that in the G series...but with the G series representing a more "luxurious" experience, this may not be to your liking or perception of how the car should perform. Just saying, make sure you test drive before you plunk down the cash.

I guess I'll let the nearest dealer know what I want and wait until he can get/trade for one.

Here is my criteria:

New
4 Doors
Manual
$35K
classy, yet fun to drive (prefer RWD)

335i is probably $5K out of our range, G8GXP is no longer made, SHO is auto only.

My current Max has the 3.5 and I have driven a G35 (auto) and a 350Z (stick). I guess I'll try out the 370Z and see how the drive-train feels.

Have you looked at an A4 Quattro or a CTS? You may not be interested...but they would be worth a try just to compare/contrast...and you should be able to get either in the $35K mark with a manual.

The 370Z definitely seemed more coarse than previous VQ engines I had driven. I'd still buy a 370Z, but I'm just thinking that coarseness may be a bit out of place in a more "luxurious" application. I've driven the automatic version of the G37 and didn't notice any coarseness at all in the drivetrain...although the engine sounded a little coarse when revving it...but nothing that would keep me from buying it (heck, my wife's A4 sounds much worse). Just saying, I'd give it a test drive before ordering which it seems like you have planned.

Yep, its being a manual that'll make it harder to find.. though I hear the new 7-speed autos are great. Anyway of your local Infiniti dealership getting one from another dealer? Though that might not help even.. I just checked the inventory of the Infiniti dealership I go to and none of their 60 sedans are manual..

Someone else already suggested it but I second the Cadillac CTS.

The harshness seems to be mostly limited to the 370Z for whatever reason.

But IMHO the engine is the weak link across this entire line and a complete deal breaker for me.

There's a fair amount of 2008 G37 S's with the 6 speed on the market, you might consider buying used if that's what you really want. They can be had for low 30's with less than 20K on the ODO.

You realize you're living ever Maxima owner's dream, right? To upgrade to a G. It was my dream. And it died. Don't let yours die. Don't let it ever die.

And don't get the auto. Don't you dare.

.

Pretty much dead on. most guys dont aim for a newer maxima anymore they aim for the G as the next car.

I did but i got a AWD auto...

used ones are decent for the money spent. New ones...maybe if they still make the 335 that car is VERY hard to beat out, even with all those know flaws with fuel pumps and etc.

I thought every Maxima owner's dream is to upgrade to a GT-R. G's are pretty pathetic all things considered. How many years has it tried to be better than 3 series?

Dude...your comments make me think you're the definition of a keyboard jockey with absolutely no time behind anything other than your "pimped" Camry.
