i am running a p4 2.4 engineering sample .

anyways i wanted to build a quiet system with a p4 1.5 but i couldnt pass up the deal. i'm using the arctic cooling tc4 heatsink with variable speed temp sensing fan.

Anyways, i put the 2.4 into my asus p4s333-m and just set it to 133x21 = 2800 default voltage since my board doesnt have tweaks. I have been running prime 95 for a couple hours now, and its stable, bu tthe asus bios is reporting core temps of 61C. somehow the fan is still spinning at 1800 rpm because it has deemed it not hot enough to spin very fast. anyways 61C seems high, but i read that the p4 can have a max core temp of like 95c. i dunno ti doesnt seem hot, but the temp thing in the bios says its 61C, . i suppose the bios could be wrong, does anyone know if asus bios reports correctly?

i used to have AS3, but i ran out and had to use normal paste. hopefully as3 can help.

I have a P4 1.8A OCed to 2.23Ghz. I'm using AS2 and an alpha pal cooler. With a Papst 12dba fan on the heatsink, my temps at max under prime95 was 54 degrees. With a panaflo l1a, max temp was 46 degrees. 61 is pretty high. Oh, I am running on a Asus p4b533-V. How's your case cooling? I have an Papst 12dba fan as an intake and one as an exhuast, case is near silent.

i dont have a case yet. this 61C reading was with my motherboard laying on the floor with a static bag. i'm hoping its not worse in a case, as there will be real airflow (power supply is above the CPU so i'm hoping the vents on the bottom of the power supply help a bit, its a temp sensing 250 watt liteon).
my inwin v506 will be coming from newegg hopefully tommorrow and it'll have a single 80mm exhaust fan.

i am gonna swap out the fan eventually after i get a arctic cooling temp sensing tc1 cooler from svc (its already been sent, just gotta wait for usps).

a friend of mine has some AS2, so i guess i shoudl try that, i'm actually thinking if i cant get it below 60C or so, i might try and buy a bigger heatsink with another 80mm tc1 cooler on it.

Hans you are fine. My 2.26@2.82 runs at 67C under full load. Clock throttling kicks in around 70 or so. It sure is hot in Texas.

Damn, someone told me to worry if it gets over 45C... now I wont worry so much.

Geez... look in the CPU thread. Clock throttle starts at around 70C, and you guys are pushing it to that point.

Cooler is better. 45 degrees is a comfortable mark - I'd aim for hitting that. As long as idle and (preferrably) max load is below 50 or (at most) 55, nothing to worry about in my oppinion.

I'd rather stay as far away from even 60 degrees as possible.

My 2 pence.
