As much as I bitch about warranties. Provided they offer a 90 day on computer parts I am fine. These things either burn out within 3 months or last for years.

I'd question whether if a part broke under warranty I would replace it anyways. Doubt I would wait the few weeks it takes to get the part replaced or fixed.

Very important to me. Had a HIS 1900XTX video card die after 13 months that I spent good money on. Now, I'm using a EVGA and not worried if it dies.

Not at all important to me - just whoever has the best price.

I've had the classic, 'burn out in the first month' happen twice. A friend's computer vid card just died at slightly over a year, due to fan failing and board burnout soon after. A fan (usually pretty cheap) can take out the card.

I like the long warranties, in part, because, years down the road, they may have to replace the old dead card with some newer part, as they may not have the old card in stock themselves. Saw a couple of threads of people with gt8800s getting newer models back due to this. The trick, of course, is registering your card or keeping your receipt.

Do you have a Visa or MC that doubles warranties?

Truth.

I've never had a video card issue out of warranty. Its either DOA or dying after its prime (my x850xt is still 3-4 years and going).
Same, and I usually move on from most enthusiast cards long before the warranty is up anyway.

You can up it to two years by registering with Diamond within 30 days of purchase. I could live with that.
Two years is pretty good IMO.

OP, what are you planning on doing with the card? If it's just an upgrade to a faster card for gaming, etc. that will probably be upgraded in a few years, go for it. If it's a longer term investment, it might be worth it then to get a warranty that matches what you're planning for it. That said, I've never had a video card randomly die on me - it was either DOA or lasted years.

It depends. If you upgrade frequently that life time warranty is useless. If you keep cards for long time you probably need better warranty.

I usually go with whatever is cheaper and upgrade frequently. Either vid cards work or they don't. I have 10 year old cards that still kicking although I wouldn't use it.

i wouldn't be apprehensive to go with either of those brands. they're both pretty established, though not as reputable as, say, evga or xfx. for a reference card they should be fine, just be wary of cheapo coolers. newegg reviews should give you a pretty good idea of what to avoid.

and to the european guys- there's no standard guarantee on anything in the US. carmakers have to warranty emissions equipment for a certain amount of time, that's all i can think of. most large electronics have one year warranties and smaller stuff is sometimes only 30 or 90 days.

Two things -

1) Look at this Hot Deals Forum post - you may be able to snag a 4890 for ~$120.

2) Newegg has a 10% off all video cards deal going right now - check hot deals for coupon code - which would wash out your 10% sales tax and you're gtg.

I've taken advantage of a warranty once in 10 years of buying video cards. Not important to me at all.

The length of the warranty is less important to me then the responsiveness and general customer centric nature of the manufacturer.

EVGA has 100% success rating from me in this regard. I've RMA'ed cards, Stepped Up more than once, and submitted numerous rebates and it has always been a top notch experience. The fact that you get a lifetime warranty after registration is just a bonus.
