Even James Bond looks pretty sheepish talking in one of those. If even he can't pull it off there's no hope for the rest of us.

Edit: Wait. It comes with a blowing shit up function? Count me in!
No, but it comes with a Samsung scrambler that works on all Samsung devices.

The only watches I wear are GPS running watches. And Apple hasn't made a product yet that can stand up to that kind of punishment.

I don't do watches but I agree with this. When I wore watches, I had a more expensive watch for dressy occasions and a cheap one for daily use that got scratched, scraped up against walls inadvertently and all sorts of other abuse. I'm going to guess any iWatch isn't going to fall into the latter category so damaging it is going to be an expensive proposition.

I would be interested but I can't say I would buy one until I see it. If it really just looks like an iPod wristwatch that people slapped together, then now. Curved glass would be nice. GPS/sports functionality would be a huge plus. And then some "people don't know what they want until you show it to them" magic would seal the deal.

So IMO, the state of 'smart watches' is pretty close to the state where cellphones were before the iPhone- a vast improvement and consolidation of redundant devices could be done, and Apple is certainly a company that could do it.

I'm not sure we need Apple to do the major lifting on the smart watch. In the past 10 years or so a lot of companies have started to follow Apple's pattern of emphasizing functionality over feature creep and tech specs. Certainly there are still plenty of holdouts in the later category but the sense that UI and UX design is tightly coupled with overall product design has become far more common.

Certainly there would be some benefit to having a watch (or any other form of wearable computing) tightly integrated with the underlying phone operating system but I don't think we really need Apple. Products like Pebble are filling the role that Apple would normally fill.

I don't see Apple-sized margins here.

There might be enough of a market for them. There are plenty of watch companies selling thousand dollar watches that aren't functionally better than something you can get for a lot cheaper.

Even still, I don't think there's enough of a market for Apple to add billions in quarterly profit with something like this, much less hundreds of millions, so I'm not really sure why they want to get into this market.

Also, outside of sports watches or diving watches, I'm not even sure why most people bother wearing them. Having a cell phone has essentially replaced the only reason I ever bothered with one.

Even if they use NFC or something like that to make it interface with the phone so you can see emails or messages without getting your phone out of your pocket, is that really enough of a compelling use case that people would rush out to buy them? I don't think so.

I'm not a watch person so I wouldn't buy one.

I'd think Samsung could make a better watch with their bendable screen technology tho.

As I already mentioned, there are people out there that wear watches as a fashion statement.
Wearing an Apple iWatch or a Samsung Galaxy Watch may be fashionable to some people. Not to me though.

Not enough to make a market out of it and unless it's really an actually useful device, it will just be a fad and fizzle out over time when that crowd moves on to something else to be fashionable.

I already have a watch, but still would not be interested if I did not already have one.

I have been looking at the Basis though, since it would actually do more of the things I actually need: http://www.mybasis.com/

Pebble isn't something I would buy. Apple can do lot better.
I'm curious what you think Pebble needs. I'm holding off on Pebble to see if the developer support materializes because that will make or break Pebble as a platform but assuming developer support does materialize Pebble seems like exactly what I'm looking for.

it would really depend on what it did. if all it did was couple to your phone so you didnt have to pull your phone out of your pocket, then no. also if you had to pay $30 a month for data, then no. if it had its own cellular/wifi and it was say, $10 a month then yeah.

also im not in to BIG watches, so if it was too huge, even if i bought it i probably wouldnt wear it

Have fun charging your watch up every 6 hours...a watch with a small battery and data....eek.
