How is bittorent???

Well ive heard lots of stuff from bittorent from loads of people. Some say its good some say its not. But my friend has been telling me about all these new movies he has on his comp still in theatres and he says he gets them all from bittorent. I was going thinking about using it this summer but never did. But now i think it would be a really cool program to have but i was wondering does it carry any kind of spyware? Also i heard you cannot be traced for downloading illegal music how is this so??

You can be traced. Don't download something you shouldn't be downloading and you'll be fine.

i did for a long time and it was good. but i stopped useing all P2P programs and the like. the ammount of time i spent fixing my computer after all the viruses and spyware. and all the time wasted with bad files and intentionaly mislabeled ones. just got to be to big of a pain. if you want to watch some movies just get netflix. save yourself a lot of time and trouble.

Bittorrent is just a network protocol with a set of clients...
It's not a P2P network do-dad like Kazza or eDonkey or whatever people use to warez crap. It's like FTP or HTTP or Microsoft file share protocols (SMB/CIFS)

You can use it to warez software because it's designed specificly to make large files easy to transfer over the internet to lots of end-users.

Don't forget the entire internet is designed to be "Peer to Peer" from the ground up.

You can avoid viruses, malware, spyware, by downloading from a reliable source. While some people will swear up and down there is no such thing as a reliable source. Well I fart in your general direction, and laugh as I get my virus, malware, and spyware FREE torrents. I'm glad to say I belong to closed community that has 0day.

Bittorrent itself is very good and reliable, the problem comes with finding torrents. And it's extremely useful when it comes to large files (as an alternative to filled servers) for patches, OS distros, etc.

As a protocol Bittorrent is an absolutely brilliant idea for large downloads.

Scumware shouldn't be a problem so long as you are using a proper client e.g. Azureus, ABC. Generally much better than the days of Kazaa, Grokster etc. with their bundled Gator crap.

As for being traced for illegal downloads, yes, it is very much possible.

Bullsh!t, for argumetns sake you can be traced anywhere you go on the net, there is always a record. there are ways around this but they are not ethical and/or legal, so i won't go into it.
