How is FEAR on a 9800Pro

I haven't seen any benches for FEAR with a 9800 Pro. Anyone have any experience with the 9800Pro and FEAR? I'm assuming that the performance will be a little less then that of a 6600GT, but that's just a guess. I'm trying to avoid getting a new vid card until my new machine, which will be sometime next year.

6600GT worked fine with FEAR, lowering the settings. I heard the real game runs better than the demo, so a 9800Pro should suffice.

It was fine for me in the SP demo, autodetect...no idea what it set it to.

I'd image you'd be able to get it nicely playabe at 1024 with some tweaking...

Phht, it's perfectly playable (30-40 fps) @ 1024x768 on medium settings. W/ a bit of overclock I easily ran that w/ 4xAF as well. Still looks great too.

Sounds good. I'm pretty impressed at how long the 9800Pro has been a viable video card.

It's FEARfully slow. Hardy har har.

Seriously it will chug, and 800X600 or 1024X768 with details set to low is about the best you can do.

I have pretty much everything set on low and it plays decently at 1024x768 on a ti4600, so I'm not sure why a 9800Pro couldn't do the same with a few options turned on medium. There are certain areas where it drops quite a bit, but it works.

Here my second system's specifications:

Same CPU (Winchester)
Same Memory
ASUS A8V Deluxe
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB 256-Bit

I could play F.E.A.R. on that system at 1024 x 768, most options at high or highest, with Shadows turned Off, as well as one or two Lightning options turned Off (don't remember). Everything else was high, or to their maximum settings.

At 1024 x 768, even though some options were on high, the game could be played without problems. Between 25 to 40 frames per second, if I remember well. It was playable, very playable.

But at 800 x 600, I could turn most options On, including the Shadows (with still one or two Lightning options at medium or low I think), and I could play it at least at 30 frames per second, and went to 50+ in certain areas, and that includes the firefights.

I'd give a 6.5 / 10 in terms of performance and playability with still a good overall visual quality and use of the highest variant of the physics and particles in terms of in-game options.

So, on a 9800 Pro it's quite decent enough I'd say.

I still prefer to play it on my host (main) system though, of course.

I don't understand why this damn game is so hard on graphics cards, it's not even that good looking....

I'm confused, why are the people who don't have a 9800 pro posting saying that it won't be any good after people with 9800 pros have already said it runs fine at 1024x 768?

Anyway, before I upgraded I had no probs either at 1024x768. Coulnd't turn on AA or any of the effects, but it ran fine.

lol, I had a ti4200 with the core @ Ti4600+ and it ran the game like a champ @1280*1024, but maybe that was due to the dx7 render path

Anyway, my 9700 Pro @ 9800 Pro speeds @1280*1024 was pretty unplayable, but that was my options due to using an LCD at the times. Definitely stick to a lower resolution and you should be fine.

If my 9600 XT can do 800x600 on high or 1024x768 on low - medium then urs can do it on 1024x768 high.

i'd expect you to be able to play max details, shadows on, soft shadows off (look like ass anyway), 2xaa/8xaf at least with that res

My 6800 GT plays it okay at 800x600 and struggles a bit at 1024x768 with everything turned up except for soft shadows and texture detail (no AA). So I wouldn't expect much from a 9800 pro; you will probably either have to drop the resolution or live with low fps.

It's a decent game as far as the actual gameplay goes, but this crappy engine is irritating.
