It has been over a year since Intel decided to use sandforce controllers, how well are they doing, how are their reliability ?

They started off with horrible sandforce reputation, but the numbers of bad reviews on sites like amazon and newegg do not suggest that they are any worse than Samsung or Crucial, is that a correct assumption ?

And still, there are people that praise Intel's reliability, even with sandforce.

Any experience with this ?

My intel 330 sandforce 256gb from last year is still working great. This is a work laptop, so its on about 12 hours a day and backup from once a day and plenty of small read/writes off word, excel, etc.

It was purchase black Friday so its pretty much 5 days 1 year old

I have a used G.Skill Sniper 64 GB Sandforce SSD in the laptop with 4.25 TB written to it so far and it's still going strong. No errors and Crystal disk info says 100% health. I also have a 3 year old AData Sandforce SSD and it's performing well too.

I don't have a Sandforce based Intel drive, but my Corsair with the same controller has been doing great. And considering Intel has custom firmware that goes through more validation than any other Sandforce customer I wouldn't have any concerns with using one.

I would recommend Intel for sure. Intel 520/530 will be a good choice. Apart from Intel, OWC Mercury Electra/Kingston Hyperx 3K work well too. As all of these happens to be sandforce based, performance & reliability is guaranteed. The main advantage of Intel SSD it is which assures best reliability & performance. It is also DuraWrite technology enabled which is sandforce proprietory which has customized intel firmware making this SSD even more solid!. 520 SSD which is best in handling data no matter what kind they are & still very fast! Also check this new controller series supports both SATA III and PCI Express ie SF3700 can read up to 1800 MB/s if your PCIe 2.0 bus is up to the task.

I don't think the Intel has the best 'performance' i.e: speed, but I expect it to be decent anyway.

I guess I'll find out, I have a brand new 530 120GB I'll be putting in a build this weekend! ^_^

My 520 240GB has been running strong for nearly a year and a half now. 12TB written without a single fault.

With the prices they are, its really not worth it to pay more for Intel without them offering a custom controller. Sandforce works best with compressible data, so newer drives with marvell or the Samsungs are generally better overall and consistent performers for cheaper.
