The topics said it all, please tell me what you all think about the image quality of the Kyro2 including 2D, DVD if possible and 3D when compare to other cards.

Thanks for your submission in advance.

Hi

I've got the 4500 herc tv-out, and I think the image quality is quite good, it beats all the nVidia card I have had.

I get a perfectly clear in 1152x864 32 bit 90 hz.

In 3d it's the same.

I havn't tried DVD, because i havn't got a DVD drive, however divX film look perfect on it.

So I would say the image quality i very good, but I don't know how it compares to ATI.

From what I've heard, the Radeon has a much better picture quality, but the Kyro II beats it when comparing framerates (not in games using T&L, as KII doesn't support it)...

I´ve been running the Hercules Prophet 4500 for a couple of days in my pc now and the 2d quality is as excellent as the matrox g400 i had before. at least up to 1280@85Hz - cause i have just a 19" monitor

I own the OEM version (same as the retail but does not include games) of the Hercules 3D Prophet 4500, and the visual quality is outstanding. Here's a run-down of what I have and how it works:

On my Philips 107S 17" monitor, the picture is razor sharp at 1280x1024x32. I have no blurry pictures, no scrolling problems, and no distortion whatsoever in 2D.

With my AOpen 12X DVD-ROM drive, every DVD movie (including high-speed action movies like Mission Impossible 2) has played fine. To me, the picture looks as good as many home DVD players that I've seen. There have been no skips, no missing images or pixels, nothing to complain about.

Playing Diablo II, Unreal Tournament, Myth II, Quake III, and Starcraft everything runs fine. I mainly play in Direct3D, so maybe someone else can comment more on OpenGL quality. I did have to apply the latest patch to Diablo II to get it to run past the introduction, apparently it's a problem with all 64MB graphics cards. But visual quality is again outstanding. I get roughly 60-70fps average in Unreal Tournament at 1024x768x32 with 8 players total.

If you have any other questions, or want me to run any other tests for you to encourage you to buy this card, just let me know! All in all, the Kyro II is a great card for the money ($112 at newegg.com last time I checked). I have had no problems (with the exception of the Diablo II patch) with this card in every application and game I have tested.

I just received this card yesterday. Apple Talking is correct about D3D and I will add that the OpenGL capability along with the visual quality is very good to excellent with this card. The 2d output is very crisp with fairly rich colors even on a LCD panel (does not beat my GF3s with DVI) and no issues to speak of with DVD so far (not as good as the Radeon but equals the GF3). I would highly recommend this card to anyone who is not looking for a GF3 or the AIW Radeon at this time. The W2K performance with the 103 drivers is also very good.

It seems like AppleTalk and Powervr2 are Kyro2 diehards. Way to go guys!

I always support the underdogs especially when they are really good. Go Sixers!

I just got the Videologic Vivid!XS32mb and the image quality is outstanding in both 2d and 3d. Having just upgraded from a Voodoo5 I would put it roughly on a par quality wise! So far I have been nothing short of impressed with this card- the TVout is a bit strange(necver had it before), but you have to set a driver for the Telly!! DVD playback is also very good on my Athlon1.4.
All in all its a top buy.

Kyro sounds like a nice card. If I didn't just buy a Radeon 2 months ago I'd probably make this card my upgrade.

Anyway, in another year when I move up we'll see what it looks like.. I can see tile based rendering moving forth still. Since I have a dreamcast I'm pretty happy with what I've seen of it.

Jesus what are the Nvidia cards you owned.

Can the 2D compare to the Voodoos or even better? And how about ATI?

The more I looked at the Anandtech sign, the more I hate Nvidia.

Not all nvdia card have bad 2d my elsa ultra is on a par with a 5500 that i had running in a dual monitor setup. Previously I had a herc gts its 2d was not quite as good, it also depends on the monitor my friends CTX monitor has terrible 2d no matter what video card is used.

Not all just a lot or most. I am sure is not the monitor, because the voodoo3 I did have in there do a much better job than right now.

That Blurry sign again.

The Kyro II is:

Better than a G400 for 3D/DVD. 2D is up in the air.
Better than a G450 for 3D/DVD. 2D is up in the air.
Better than a Radeon 32MB DDR for 3D. DVD and 2D probably about the same on a faster (>500MHz. system)
On par with or better than a Radeon 64MB DDR for 3D. See above about 2D and DVD quality.

If you're only going to do light gaming, you may want to keep the Voodoo3 3000, especially if you play a lot of Glide-based games.

The image quality is on par with my Voodoo 5, which I just replaced with the Kyro 2. However, DVD playback seems to be "average" - although, I'm comparing this to a Denon DVD player with a Sony High Definition TV..

How about TV-OUT quality?

I currently have an ATI Rage128 (non Pro) and the TV output is decent but nothing to call home about.
How will the Kyro 2 compare?
I'm really thinking of buy this card also because its Win2k drivers are even faster than the 9x ones according to an extensive comparison over at www.digit-life.com
And Win2k it's my OS of choice.

Anybody?
Thanks.

To Archknight

I have had a TNT and a TNT2 ultra, the kyro II beats the both off course.

However I have my friends GeForce 2 GTS on my monitor and the kyro II beats them aswell. But that's just my opinion.
