Samsung makes some of it?
Do they?
I don't have a clue about Samsung.
If they do then how are they able to stay ahead in the competition?
Cause they most of it.
Here's why Apple is so aggressively targeting Samsung over other Android phone/tablet manufacturers.
When Apple or Amazon want to make a phone or tablet, they go to an ODM like Foxconn or Quanta with their design. They go to display manufacturers like LG or Sharp to source displays, memory manufacturers like Toshiba to source memory/storage, Sony to source camera sensors, TI or Nvidia to source SoCs, another company to source batteries, etc. The ODMs take all the sourced components and assemble them according to their design contract.
A company like Samsung makes displays, SoCs, batteries, memory, camera sensors, and more in-house. Because they make all these components themselves, they have much more control over the design process. It's one reason why Samsung has been able to release phones/tablets thinner than Apple, while companies like HTC release fat (but well made) bricks.
Making all those components in-house also means Samsung can aggressively undercut the competition on price if they choose. They aren't playing hardball right now; their GS2 phones carry premium prices because they're selling like hotcakes.
Because Koreans are like the Japanese except with creativity.
Disagree. There is plenty of creativity in Japan.
I think it's the natural order of things. America used to be the hungry upstart and there was a ton of creativity as we rose to the top. Then we got to the top and things started to stagnate and get buried in bureaucracy. that's what happens when you are at the top, you are more busy trying to maintain the status quo than to take risks.
That gave rise to other countries to take risks and try to claw their way to the top. Which after America was Japan in many ways. Japan definitely had a lot of success and you are seeing many of the Japanese companies stagnate. Why do you think Sony had to go outside of Japan for a CEO? They recognized that Sony was stagnating and that they needed new blood to mix things up.
Obviously Korea has been on the rise for a while and many would argue they too have risen to the top. In my opinion, the next likely candidate is going to be China. It's a fast growing economy. It has a crap ton of people which means more potential consumers for goods.
Not only do Samsung make pretty much all the components in their smartphones, they actually make lots of parts for other OEMs. That puts them at an advantage because they get first dibs on all the latest tech that way.
E.G. remember the Droid Incredible? HTC switched from SAMOLED displays to S-LCD because they couldn't get enough SAMOLED screens from Samsung.
Chinese people don't have creativity so they will never rise/reach parity to US/Japan/Korea.
I can point to plenty of innovations and creativity by people in China or people of Chinese descent. Just because you don't know about it doesn't mean it isn't there. Your comment shows you don't have the slightest clue about the Chinese people.
For the record, and in the interest of disclosure, I am an American of Chinese descent. I actually pay attention to news about China and the Chinese people all around the globe because it is part of my heritage.
