I agree with Garfang. If you start roaming on Sprint PCS you'll get hammered on charges. I use mine for work so I don't really care but if I were paying those roaming charges I would be outraged.

The reason Sprint has a lot of problems is that is uses ONLY CDMA technology. That technology hasn't been out too long. Most other cell phone companies just laid CDMA over the exisiting TDMA and/or analog networks, which provides a backup. Also, Sprint built their network from the ground up and didn't use anybody's existing equipment.

I could not get a signal anywhere in my hometown, had to use roaming, and paid a buttload of fees for it. Seems everywhere I go I would hit a blind spot and not be able to use the dam phone :| :| :| :| :| :| I switched to AT&T, got a better plan and minutes, and almost never get dropped calls. I live in Irving, a large suburb of Dallas, TX

In Cincinnati Ohio, Sprint is on the border of sucking. They used to be REALLY bad, but they are getting a lot better, particularly in metro Cinci. The 'burbs still suck. I don't know too too mcuh about dropped calls, but my friends that live downtown don't complain much.

I have an Ericson T18LX with digital data cable (MMMMMMM) on ATT Wireless (well CinciBell Wireless, member ATT wireless network)... I pay $29.99 for 200 peak/unlimited off peak (8pm-6am + all weekend) for local airtime. I have to pay for roaming even in ATT wireless cities, but I rarely travel so I don't care too much.

The ATT wireless service (TDMA1900) is damn near perfect - like inside elevators inside buildings. GTE Wireless (CDMA1900) is pretty damn good too. Verizon (CDMA800) are pretty decent too, service wide. Verizon will always try to stick you up your bootyhole on the contracts. Very nasty.

As for phones, both the Samsung 3500 and 8500 rule. Great battery life, great reception, easy to use. My sister's boyfriend has one and he loves it.
