Football hits are hard, but those guys wear full padding and helmets. Now with the clamping down on head injuries, any little knock to the head and the player is carted off the field.
Rugby players get whacked without pads and suffer bone-crunching tackles and head injuries are common and the rugby helmets pale in comparison to the NFL ones.
What's more, there are more countries that play Rugby and take that sport seriously than there are those that take handegg seriously (really there's only one country that takes handegg seriously).
Baseball was axed because the MLB didn't want to stop their season to let their players play. Since they couldn't have the best players playing, the IOC decided it wasn't worth it and dropped it.
no BB and Softball are out of the 2016 olympics as well, IIRC for being TOO American, which its is however we dont dominate it in the olympics as many MLB players are not from the US. Softball is another matter.
That's just load a bull you know. Other international sports do not send their best players to the Olympics and the US has been fielding college all-stars and some pros for awhile before MLB began sending "better" players.
vs
i don't get it

"To be on the Olympic program is an issue where you need universality as much as possible," Rogge said. "You need to have a sport with a following, you need to have the best players and you need to be in strict compliance with WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). And these are the qualifications that have to be met.
"When you have all that, you have to win hearts. You can win the mind, but you still must win hearts."
Those "hearts" must be won over when the IOC meets in October 2009. The IBAF and Major League Baseball are among those lobbying in full force during the Games and will be all the way up until that decision is made. In addition to baseball and softball, the committee will be choosing among squash, karate, golf, roller sports and rugby. Baseball and softball are mutually exclusive, not a package deal.
Major League Baseball once again did not permit its players to be on the U.S. team, which was eliminated from gold-medal contention on Friday night by Cuba. The U.S. roster is comprised of 23 Minor Leaguers plus San Diego State junior pitcher and top 2009 Draft candidate Stephen Strasburg. Rogge said that must change.
"Yeah, it's a big factor," he said. "We have [Roger] Federer, [Roger] Nadal in tennis, LeBron James in basketball. We have the best cyclists. Ronaldinho is here in football. We want these guys at the Games. We're not saying it should be an entire Major League team, but we want the top athletes here at the Olympics
I don't watch the Olympics at all, but seriously they have a Badminton event? How about kick ball or Four Square?
I would fff'ing own on the US Four Square team, gold medal baby!
yeah, so might as well post a picture of one of your soccer dudes doing a header, and call your game "Head Orb."
Then why is it that boxing is an Olympic sport? Not many people worldwide like having their brain become useless in 5 years from repeated head impacts.
Yeah, I did, when I was in kindergarten, along with badminton, ping pong and trampoline.anyone ever played handball, it looks like it would be pretty fun
Thanks for elaboration, at first I assumed that you were trolling. I agree with you on some of your points. I personally prefer baseball to football and it is one of the toughest sports to argue regarding the player's skill or athleticism.
Then why is it that boxing is an Olympic sport?
also how the hell are you gonna have a football tourny with a huge number of teams only playing 1 game a week?
yeah, so might as well post a picture of one of your soccer dudes doing a header, and call your game "Head Orb."
because it would only be another gold for the USA
they need to add more "sports" along the lines of pingpong to make it fair for the rest of the world, such as Air Hockey and Foosball, maybe even Dodgeball.
While they are at it lets go ahead and add darts, bowling, poker and pinball.
How about we add a gladiatorial arena where you fight to the death.
Is that 'manly' enough for you?
