Weaksauce.

Make it mandatory that any person regardless of age, be required to pass a mental health screening before being allowed to purchase a firearm.

That would be a compromise.

Your proposal is a piece of shit.

.

I'm probably more pro 2A than the person you quoted, yet I tend to agree with you. I would think some form of license should be required to purchase guns. Not per gun, but per time period (so as not to create a database of who owns what gun). Let's say every 3-5 years or so you have to get re-licensed and a new mental health background check. I'm totally good with that. The only concern might be if things like "wants to own a certain gun" or "home schools their children" or "is a Christian" start becoming labeled as mental illnesses, as some in this very forum have opined (and not been called out on).

THIS is how republicans AND the NRA think.....
Someone can be as batshit crazy as they want, a total mental case, incredible insane, HOWEVER....

If, and I say if they have YET to carry out some form of violence such as a previous mass murdering in public, then the insane have every right to buy/own an assault weapon of mass destruction.
THAT is how they think, republicans, gun lovers, the NRA.
One must first do the deed in order to then be thought as a risk.
We all know that is EXACTLY how it works, right?

So, it would have not mattered a single bit if the FBI had alerted everyone on earth to this guy, and to what he would probably do.
It wouldn't matter.
BECAUSE, the NRA, Donald Trump, most all republicans would have defended this mass murders legal right to buy/own/carry around an assault weapon if no previous mass school shooting had taken place by the individual.
Republicans and the NRA would simply say, how dare we assume this guy is a risk and take away his gun loving rights?

So come-on folks. Nothing is going to change here.
And damn it.... the republicans, Donald Trump, AND the NRA will continue to allow these nutcases on the verge of exploding to HAVE THEIR GUNS.
You can take that to the bank.

It all sounds good, this "better mental health" thing from Trump and all of his crap, but Donald Trump doesn't really mean it. Certainly Trump does not give a rats ass if a handful of school kids get blown away once in a while. A few times a year.
At least they are not TRUMP's kids.....

Republicans holding all the power don't really mean it nor will they allocate one extra dime towards addressing mental health.
Don't fool yourself, people.
In the end, nothing not one thing will ever change as long as the NRA is in charge.
We will have more assault weapons sold to insane people, more basement plannings for mass school shootings, more killing. Nothing will ever change.

How do we get our stuck in a rut changed? Break this killing cycle?
VOTE OUT REPUBLICANS, for #1.
Vote in democrats and independents that are not owned by the NRA (which is the challenge).
Then, once we succeed with draining the the swamp of NRA loving murders in congress and in the Whitehouse, demand change by enacting new laws.
Demand assault weapons be not only banned but illegal to have possession of.
And that includes assault weapons currently owned. Make them all illegal to buy, own, and possess.
Have gun buy-backs in every community across the nation organized and ran solely by law enforcement.
Gather up those guns, all of them, and have them all melted down, destroyed.
Then, arrest with mandatory jail time anyone caught with an assault weapon in their home.
ANYIONE!!!!

Even California Courts have found that the prohibitive cost of ammunition is unconstitutional.
https://www.nraila.org/articles/201...tutionality-of-california-ammunition-controls

and in "Bowling for Columbine" Rock said $5,000 a bullet.

I didn't hear that on Bowling for Columbine I don't think. Even if I miss quoted $1k bullets would have the same effect.

That article said the reason the case was tossed out was because:
"However, the key sticking point was Cal. Penal Code § 16650(a), which defined "handgun ammunition" as "ammunition principally for use in pistols, revolvers, and other firearms capable of being concealed upon the person, notwithstanding that the ammunition may also be used in some rifles." Another section defined pistols, revolvers, and concealable firearms exclusively by reference to barrel length or barrel interchangeability design--specifically, as those with a barrel less than 16 inches long."

and not over cost.

How is what this kid did Trump's fault? He was on a wayward path way before Trump took office. Where's the blame on Obama? Gun sales where through the roof under his watch...

I'm not a gun advocate, but you're never going to get people to turn in their guns either voluntarily or by force.

One of the first things Trump did was revoke Obama's background checks for the Mentally Ill. Not really sure Obama has much to do with this except enacting this now revoked by Trump bill that would have kept guns out of this kid's hands. The peculiar thing is that the White House knew this was bad juju, with them not ever releasing the pictures. They've released the pictures of the bill signings of the three other bills that day, but NO not this one! Why?

Oh I wouldn't disagree that is one dumb move by Trump by repealing that. I just got the feeling by the other guys post that it was all Trump and the Republican's fault. Like anything else in this country it both party's fault for not at least attempting to do anything about this.

It was a very limited Executive order.
"The rule, which was finalized in December, added people receiving Social Security checks for mental illnesses and people deemed unfit to handle their own financial affairs to the national background check database." It would not have been applicable in the Florida case.

School security in some Texas ISD's.

"To become a school marshal, those employees must undergo extensive active shooter and firearms training with the state. They must also undergo a mental health evaluation.

They receive a school marshal designation by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and must renew their license every two years by undergoing the same training and evaluation.

Outside of campuses in Keene and Argyle, signs warn visitors that there are staff members who are armed and are prepared to protect children."

Do you have any idea how fucked up your country is tajbot? If you aren't going out of your way to discredit the FBI. It's armed school marshals is a good idea. What do they carry? Sidearms? How does that stack up against an AR-15 and homemade explosives? People panic under fire even trained soldiers. I have seen videos of british troops under fire in Afghanistan for the first time not knowing what the fuck to do. Please provide the stats that show how school marshals have stopped mass shootings.

It always seems to be the same old case, mentally ill or depressed etc.. child owns Semiautomatic rifles and guns with the parents allowing ownership of such weapons and ammo.

Why would someone want to let a child or teenager who suffers from depression to keep weapons in their possession? I wonder if this shooting will be the wakeup call for parents to take guns away from teens etc... who suffer from mental issues?

Cruz had a long history of problems and yet he was permitted to keep weapons and ammo, same with Adam Lanza. At some point a lightbulb should light up in peoples mind.

Can you please provide proof that cruz's parents provided the AR-15 he used to murder 17 schoolchildren?

I haven't voted, but if I did vote no, it would be because I want the gov't to take away the guns. That shouldn't be on parents.

Why do you stupid motherfvckers keep repeating this talking point. Read the ACLU's press release on the signing of this bill/ revoking of the EO. Signing that bill was absolutely the right thing to do.
