Not long. I guess I live as long as I could til the bank calls the sheriff to kick me out. I suppose I could extend it if I hit a hot streak at the craps tables.

I call mucho shens on that one.

2/3rd of ATOT live with their parents in the basement. It should be much higher.

I'm also guessing that those who are married assumed their spouse would still have a job.

If I got laid off from my job, indefinitely. The majority of my income comes from VA disability and VA paying me to go to school. If the wife got laid off, it might be a bit shorter.

Easily a month without much concern but things would get pretty tight after that.

For many years or as long as it takes to get kicked out. I still live at home.

In reality though, I'd really hope to find another job within the next few months as I don't want to be a loser still living at home not putting effort into life. I'm just here till I can afford a house.

I put severance into the bank, now we have 20k in there.
We survive on my wife's income, she works in law enforcement, while I started school full time last week.

My wife and I have a nice emergency fund saved up just in case. I lost my job back in 2006, and at the time we had enough saved up with unemployment to be able to pay the bills and such for 6 months. My wife encouraged me to take some time off, but I found a contract job a month later and then found a full time job a month after the contract job was done.

Right now, we have enough that I could go for 6 months with no job.

3-6 months. Actually, with my wifes job, probably much longer. And I have no shame, I'd work anywhere till I get another good job. Minimum wage is not below me even thoguh I am an engineer.

Um, with my current finances I could perhaps make a desperate attempt at going into the wild/

A couple months without tapping into my retirement fund living the way I do now...

Living a lot cheaper, 3-4 months... I eventually want to get up to a 6months which I am slowly getting too.

About 20 minutes, but I'd so jump at the chance to completely change my career. I'd get some loans, go back to school full-time, try to find some work on the side, and see what happens when I'm done.

As long as my wife kept her job, we could last indefinitely as long as we kept a tight rein on spending.

A long time - many months. My wife doesn't work so we focus heavily on savings. Cars and house are paid for so between unemployment and savings we could make it quite a while.

without any form of income? about 2 years at current spending levels
without any form of income? about 4 years with adjustment of current spending levels
with social security benefits? about 6 years with current spending levels as
with social security benefits? indefinetly with adjustment of current spending levels

I don't have a lot of fixed costs (no kids, cheap rent, no car, pre-paid phone etc.) and even those that I have I can almost cut in half.

1 yr at current expenditure rates

I would also look at that as a good time to change careers.

Assuming it was just me and not my SO, a pretty long time. If it was both of us, we could probably last about a year. We have been stocking up on food for the last six monts (have a decent supply for two adults), and we save more than we spend.
