I guarantee you will never own a business. If you're content to waste your life away doing nothing for 3 weeks rather than trying to improve your situation, you're about 100 steps below the idiots that post on here asking for business logo or name ideas.

yes there are reasons why this is bad, but also this is like the kind of weird thing that some people dream about but never actually do or that only happen in movies... except he's doing it and it's real.

i think you should continue this awesome experiment and ignore all non-in person communications. if someone finally talks to you in person, try to string them along but give the least amount of reasoning as possible. "give me a few more days." "almost done." etc. see how long you can be lost in the sea of cubicles.

lol, I must say, I would never have the courage to go through with a plan like yours. The "going out with bang" way of getting fired is usually the most envious, but your plan of just not doing "anything" is amazing in its simplicity.

Kudos

What you should really do to push the limits is start coming in when you want to and leaving when you want to.

I like that he is in fact at the office 8 hours a day. Just doing absolutely nothing.

*Update April 14, 2008*

I just got this in an email:

Please advise of the following

XXXXXX - this is for an initial assigned March 13th - report is now DUE (30 days from referral) - Please advise.

You were also assigned an internal service request from [name] to do a 4 week JSTP at the office - Please advise as to how this is going and what has been accomplished thus far.

You were assigned a new referral on April 9th - please advise whether you've connected with the referral source and claimant to start services?

I haven't started anything on any of the three things I'm being asked about...

That e-mail angers me. Christ! how many times can one use the phrase "Please advise" I mean its not even used correctly. They don't need you to advise them they need you to update them. Advise and update have two totally different meanings!!!

one of the pinceton definitions is "inform (somebody) of something "

Well it still angers me on the amount of times it is used.

It's the nice way of saying "we know you probably haven't done shit and you better get your ass in gear."

I'm not sure I could do this, but it sure is a fun read!

Yea there are days when I don't do a damn thing, but then there are days when I don't get to sit down because I'm running around so much, so it balances out. That's pretty much the life of an IT desktop support person though. My company has a pretty easy way to track us though, if I'm not closing tickets it doesn't take them long to ask why.

I'm generally showing up about 30 minutes late a day and take at least a 1 hour lunch. I guess I'm really only here about 6.5 hours a day.

*Update April 15, 2008*

I got a phone call this morning. It startled me a bit, but let it go to voicemail (I was already on the phone).

My senior editor verbally re-stated what was said in the last email and said I needed to get back to her ASAP.

I replied to her email and told her my report was mostly completed, however I was waiting on another form from the clients psychiatrist before I could complete the report. I made no mention of the other items.

Her response was "Your report was due out yesturday - you'll need to get this form asap!

I think I just bought myself at least another couple of weeks
