If they come asking for X days of pay, I hope you can pay it. Heck, they could probably check your computer and find this thread and use it against you.

You signed an agreement to do X works/hours per week for Y compensation. So far, they have been giving you Y for no X. In other words, you're stealing as far as I am concerned. And they will want their Y back!

i agree. i hatge it when im searching for stuff to do. as it is i sit here neffing while installing/ configging stuff, so its like not really working but still getting things done. field work is quickly becoming my fave, always busy, working at my pace and loud music. no neffing tho, no wireless broadband on my laptop.

I signed a contract that stated that I am required to bill 6.5 hours a day for 100% wage. If I bill less than 6.5 hours a day, my pay drops to 80%. I'm not stealing anything. I just not being productive. Besides, I couldn't bill anywhere near 6.5 hours a day if I wanted to. Hell, if I gave all my files to the other person here, they still wouldn't be able to fill half of a full caseload. There just isn't enough work.

I feel sorry for whoever's claim you've been ignoring. You're a douchebag.

I'm the guy that allows people to keep receiving their disability paycheque. If I do nothing, they don't have to do anything until they feel like it. When they do start working again, the insurance companies just tell me to close my file and we bill the insurance company for the work we've done. I'm preventing the insurance companies from cutting off peoples disability benefits. Feel sorry for them? I almost see myself as Robin Hood...

It's been one week now, and nobody has said a word yet. I took monday, tuesday and wednesday off work. Just said I was sick. Came to work today at 10:30 totally hungover and haven't lifted a finger all day.

*Update April 14, 2008*

I just got this in an email:

Please advise of the following

XXXXXX - this is for an initial assigned March 13th - report is now DUE (30 days from referral) - Please advise.

You were also assigned an internal service request from [name] to do a 4 week JSTP at the office - Please advise as to how this is going and what has been accomplished thus far.

You were assigned a new referral on April 9th - please advise whether you've connected with the referral source and claimant to start services?

I haven't started anything on any of the three things I'm being asked about...

Don't forget the cover for your TPS report.

In other words, you've got a good thing and you're ruining it. Let's say they are only giving you 1 hour of work a day. Right now the only thing you can think of is to fill those 7 extra hours browsing ATOT and maybe some other retarded webpages. You could however, be taking training or going to school part time and using this extra time for homework. You could be researching subjects that you needed to understand, maybe some home renovation topics. Perhaps your workspace has a gym or maybe you could do some moderate workouts at some point during your day to take up some of that time. You could read a book and educate yourself. You could learn a language. There are tons of things you could do with the extra 7 hours, which in reality is a perk, that you've instead CHOSEN to turn into a curse. The problem is you. And because the problem is you, it does not surprise me that you are willfully eliminating yourself from a good job. Maybe next time you will find a job that fills 8 hours of your day with a ton of work that will never once matter in the course of your life.

Exactly. I work a government job and don't get nearly enough assigned to me to fill the hours. When I am not spending time neffing on ATOT, I am researching stuff that will help me in other parts of my life or learning about something which really isn't all that useful but I find it interesting anyways. However, when there is work to do I always make sure it gets done early and is high quality.

That e-mail angers me. Christ! how many times can one use the phrase "Please advise" I mean its not even used correctly. They don't need you to advise them they need you to update them. Advise and update have two totally different meanings!!!

LOL the modern day Robin Hood! He steals from the rich and helps the poor by doing nothing!

I hope you stay employed for as long as you can, because you're getting a check and pumping money into our economy in one way or another. I don't want unemployment numbers to get any higher.

Awesome thread. It's the fear of turning out like this that has kept me off of AT lately!

Big project going on, was supposed to go live June 2008. Due to screw ups at another government agency, mine can't go live until October 2009. However, our contractors are all signed on through this August. Since it takes 3-5 months to rehire folks, by some sadistic logic it makes sense to keep them on the dole, doing absolutely nothing, until they're needed again this November or so. I'm fairly junior but asked if they could do projects needing labor (painting, maintenance, filing, etc.) but since their position descriptions only lists some random database work...no dice. Grrrr.

I wish that you'd have some self pride OP. Regardless of how your job is and what you do, you should aim to do it the best way you can.

I figure I could go a full month before anyone caught on, but then there would be hell to pay. At that point, I bet I could talk my way through another week or so before they actually canned me.
