Sorry, I don't use a Mach razor. I use a Gillete Sensor Excel and I replace the blade every month and a half to 2 months. I usually shave twice a week, BTW.

Mach 3's don't seem to last too long for me-and I have a light beard and am a cheap SOB. But it is real nice with a new sharp blade.

Well those Gillette Good News (blue) disposble razors last me from 2-4 months. I shave 5-6 days a week (weekends I am scruffy).

EDIT: To make them last longer, make sure your beard is totally soft - I shave in the shower (at the end of the shower).

i have heard putting them in an alcohol such as everclear....the alcohol keeps them from early stages of rusting,etc...

I shave 2-3 times a week with a Mach 3 and find I have to replace it every 2-3 weeks. The blades also get goated with some sort of white crap.

Electric Blades last around 6 mounths.

If u want to make your blades last longer, go to sharper image which sells some magnet shaver holder which restores the blades.

Wow, you guys must have no facial hair. My blades last me two uses each, and then I have to chuck them because they get too dull.

Sorry to break it to you, but that Sharper Image razor thing is JUNK SCIENCE.

The magnetic field cannot affect the microstructure at all at normal room temperatures.

Maybe if you heated it beyond the austenite finish temperature... then the domains would be able to align. But then you'd have a pretty crappy razor since the plastic would be vaporized by then. You'd also have to quench the razor in water, no biggie.

Yeah, using magnets to restore razors is BULL.
I can understand keeping it in oil might retard oxidation though.

I shave several times a week, using the Mach 3. 1 blade lasts me about 3 weeks...I have copper wire for hair too.

Been debating whether or not to invest in a straight razor, I hear the closeness of shaves is beyond compare.

Not at all, my beard is full and hair just as tough as yours.

The secret to getting up to 100 shaves from a single blade is to make sure your beard is properly softened. It takes time - about 15 minutes of continuous soaking (which is why I shave in the shower at the end of the shower). Shaving creme is NO shortcut.

In the old days a man would go into the barber shop, hot moist towels applied for at least 10 minutes and then lather and shave. There are no shortcuts.

Unless your beard is really soft it's just like cutting dry wood - even with shaving cream which just makes it smoother - two or three shaves from a blade are normal (that's what I used to get).

5 shaves......

How many licks to the center of a tootsie pop? Now that is a question.

apoppin, I do the same thing as you do - I go in the shower, and wait 10 minutes before I shave. I still destroy my razors like no one's business. I should also say that I'm VERY suceptible to ingrown hairs, so I really notice it when my razor is dull.

unfortunately I cannot even use a razor blade, or my face will turn into the elephant man. seriously though, if i put a razor to my face, then after 2 days i will start bumping up all over, with huge hairs digging into my skin! I still have the marks to prove it. It is disgusting I tell ya!

I really envy you guys. what i wouldn't do for a close shave!

Shazam,

remember it only takes about 2 or 3 minutes for the beard hairs to dry out again and chew up the blade. Ten minutes is an absolute minimum of continuously soaking with warm water before immediately shaving.

Other than that I don't know. When I shaved outside the shower and used shaving cream I got only 2-3 shaves per blade.

I've used them all, and the best disposable razor are the Bic's. The Gillettes are nice too, but they clog up too fast.
Now the Schick's the Schick's plain suck, never ever use a Schick.

Linux, I feel your pain. Black guys like myself have NO luck when it comes to shaving. My Mach3 blades might last two weeks tops, if I son't shave on the weekend.

The secret to long lasting blades and comfortable shaves is the soap you use. When I used a blade I always used mug soap and a brush. Hard to find now but some drugstores still carry them or a barbershop supply co if you can find one. Get a GOOD BRUSH like badger and you will have it for life.

Aren't black guys also more susceptible to razor bumps and such? I seem to remember quite a few of the guys in my platoon having a hard time with shaving everyday. Their faces would just be raw.

I only shave every few days because my face too beat up shaving every day. I could probably do it every other day, but I'm too lazy to go that much trouble.

Bobber-

That is why I changed to an electric. A lot easier on your face and as Victor Kiam said, "If you can find a beter razor, buy it!"

Remington classic is the best, hope they havent stopped making them as usually happens when you fing something you like and works well.
