How long does it take for you to build a computer?

Conroe build will take...say...45 minutes maybe depending on format and install.

do you include drivers, games, benchmarks, apps like cpuz and the like, setting up windows, downloading updates? long long time I'd think...usually about 1 day for the full suite of stuff.

Since I mostly build for myself I usually have the option of taking as much time as I want. This is more of a hobby for me so I prefer to enjoy the process and not rush through it. To see my first desktop screen, I would say anywhere from 50 minutes with a quick format when I'm in a hurry to 2-3 hours when I have time. I've been building my own for about 10 years.

depending on what I bought, SLI + crazy extra fans and whatnot can be 3-4 hours including OS. A simple 1 HD. 1 DVD. 1 video card build can be 10-30 minutes for hardware depending on the case, 40 min or so for Windows XP pro,

Agreed, Installing the hardware is the easiest/quickest. The tests, games, software, drivers, tweaks, etc. is what takes the longest and yes I'm on high speed internet, so I voted above 8.

Edit: Just recently I found a program that will help me out with the drivers if I were to happen to re-install the OS on the same computer setup. This should hopefully cut out about an hour or two.

I can get the hardware put together in about 30 minutes, but it takes 2 or 3 hours to get Windows and all my programs installed and about 2 more hours to get everything the way I like it. So maybe between 4 and 6 hours.

One last thing, I let the system run for 24 hours to make sure the hardware is working good before I give it back to the owner and even so on my personal PC's. I've had hard drives crash and discovered bad PSU's during this time just to name a couple.

Haha yeah I curse alot too...I usually also take a break when trying to do something like plug in the power switch/led wires to the mobo and grab a beer. I never get them right the first try.

If I know what goes where and find no nasty suprises, 10-20 minutes. OS and drivers vary by system. I'd say 45-60 minutes average if all goes well.
Although if I'm building a system with hardware that I've never installed before or working with parts that can expect some cussing, I take my time and make sure I get everything right. No point rushing and effing everything up.

I don't understand why people complain about that heatsink, I looked at it, and installed it in about 2 minutes.

8 hours for water cooling, installing components and wire management.

Add an hour for the OS.

took me just about 6 hours to put everything together, route the cables, install the windows XP and all the other poo. This doesn't include the two much needed pizza breaks an hour into it and half way through. It was fun though... gonna do it again soon!

Yea right!

I had to do a reinstall this morning, after my new system that I built over the weekend, took a hit from mother nature, and corrupted the OS. With a WD 320g sata hdd, and to reformat the hard drive took over an hour!

After loading with XP(another 40mins), and all the drivers, and software, to where you like it, more like at least 4 hours!

But maybe that's just me?

30 to 45 mins getting the hardware all installed properly. 2 hours for Windows XP install, including, Windows updates, Kaspersky, and the rest of my programs.

I feel the same way Smartazz. The A64, and Sempron's Heatsinks are a lot better than the old ones on the Athlon XP's. I prefer the A64 over LGA775, and the old Athlons.

My last build was about 7 hours cause I had some hangups since it was new stuff and had drivers I hadnt used before. Most of the time it took me 4 to do everything this includes install of everything and XP patches.
