How long for burn in? Thugs Plz Read

Some sites say burn in is necessary some say no. I have just set up P4 1.6a with Samsung PC2700, with stock HSF, and Asus P4B533-E.
Planning on trying FSB 133 first then do 160. Not going to adjust anything else. Going to lock AGP and PCI speeds to the stock. What do you guys think? Thugsrook any suggestions? Could you post the exact options you used if you changed more than what's said in your rig's profile. Thanks.

i dont really believe in burn in.
i just plug it in an go.

with a completly new setup i would overclock slowly and benchmark alot of stuff the whole way. this will also give you some time to get to know the system and its needs.

start out @ default speed (duh!) check to make sure all voltages and temps are good - and benchmark it. everything running good? ok continue. with a 1.6A go straight to 133fsb check temps and voltages - and benchmark it. do the same for 140, 145, 150fsb, etc, til youve hit your max vcore (1.75v max!) and cant/dont want to add any more.

having all this info will give you great insight into your system. if you cant figure it out from the numbers, make a progress chart

Thanks Thugsrook. I know the general idea of the testing then increasing FSB until stable process. Just want to know like what bios and other settings you did besides increasing FSB.

all my bios changes are in my threads - "Asus P4b266-C" and "Asus P4B533". i used the same CPU and memory in both reviews.

How do you find out the batch/origin of your cpu?
Also how come in 3dMark and the bios the cpu max speed is 2400? Is P4 1.6a somehow locked to 2.4 Ghz?

its written on the box.
look for a date "3/19/02" like that.
they dont really mean much tho. the newer they are the slight chance of them being better.
as you can see, mines pretty old tho
