Will be 5 years this summer. Or actually maybe it was last summer, I lose track of time since it goes by so fast. Basically, when I moved into my house. The one before that was probably a good 10 years old or so.

We also went a little firm on our memory foam, I think 4.5 pound density.

How is heat retention and motion transfer on your latex?
Great. It is about 200 pounds for a king, it isolates you well. It was not cheap, but it is also two sided and should go 20 years or more if flipped and turned end for end, especially with the throw away topper taking the larger share of wear.

What do you think? I've been meaning to buy a good mattress, and am considering splurging on one, specifically "Simmons Beautyrest Recharge World Class Phillipsburg Plush Pillowtop" for 749

I like it. heavy, but it works well.

unless you have a bed frame that you really like, don't bother with a box spring. simmons are designed to work as a platform bed.

About three weeks. I just got a Casper mattress and it's really nice. The previous mattress I had was almost 19 years old so it was due for an upgrade. The main mattress actually held up alright but the boxspring (it was actually a boxspring) was pretty bad. When I removed it I noticed a couple broken slats.

The latex is nice because it gives but it doesn't completely surround your body.

21 years.

Might be time for a new one, but I honestly think the guideline of replacing your mattress every 5-10 years is something made up entirely by people making and/or selling mattresses. I'm pretty sure a properly rotated mattress can last much longer than that.

Just over a year. Went with a nice firm mattress this last time around, after being on a softer, squishier one for many years and I have never slept better. I used to get a tired back all the time, but not anymore.

Also I've had multiple people sleep in my bed and though they were skeptical going in, since it was so hard, afterwards they said it was the best sleep they've had. Firm mattress is legit yo.

That was certainly the strategy behind pillow top mattresses. The place I got ours at had almost all two sided mattresses.

It's all personal preference. Since getting married in '94 the wife and I have had three mattress sets at our primary residence. The one I had when we married was old and we replaced it with a set marketed as firm. It was like sleeping on granite. We exchanged that set with another firm set and neither of us has slept well on it. It's too damned firm.

We just replaced the set we ended up with through a turn-key purchase of a second residence. We spent well over an hour in the mattress store and ended up with a soft pillow top and I am having the best sleep I've ever had in my life on it. I am not looking forward to sleeping on the firm set at our primary residence when we return in the spring.

As an aside, despite the gushing proclamations of a 90 day exchange policy on our first set, doing so was no easy thing. They threw up roadblock after roadblock until I hinted at contacting the Attorney General in our state.

I'm amazed at you guys buying mattresses online without ever even spending a minute on them.

my mattress is about 2 years old... usually end up replacing them every 8-10 years. hopefully keeping this one until we move into a place with the space for a king size bed (currently have a queen)

firm FTL... when I housesit for my parents I end up just sleeping on their couch because every bed is firm as hell and ends up making my back writhe in discomfort.

I can't flip mine, only rotate it as it has a heavy base, it's pocket sprung so the missus doesn't disturb me when she moves around.

Ehhh, I got this one when I bought my townhouse in 2004. Its a spring mattress, queen size. I have a foam topper I replace every couple years... always very comfortable. Planning to replace with king size whenever I get around to it.

About 12 years. It's a Lady Americana pillow top. I use foam toppers and replace them about every two years. Turn the mattress around about once a year. Still very comfortable.

I love firm. I actually get the greatest rest sleeping on the floor sometimes. That's why I chose Lux Firm. It's still hard but the small topping keeps it not tile like.

Mine has some sharp bits of metal sticking out at the head of the bed. I assume that they are the end of coils? Already cut my elbow on one of them once.

Mines probably 8 years old.
