I probably average around 38 but then there's times like now (end of year) where I'll go up toward 45.

Why do some of you salaried folks work more than 40? Is your salary based on a longer work week? Do you get a big bonus For it? I've never understood people that consistently work unpaid overtime. Sure, put in some extra time in a crunch, but why do it every week?

If you don't, you aren't a "team player". This is especially dangerous if there aren't any similar jobs in your area.

This poll makes me angry.
Should say
30 +- 5 hrs
40 +- 5 hrs
etc.
How hard is that?

Ha, did not notice that, it could have been that way, or 10-19, 20-29 etc... and why is 40-50 skipped?

Also, holy crap at some of the commutes. 15 hours? I don't know how people can stand to have to drive so much every single day. I understand that's total, but that's still like 3 hours per day so hour and a half both ways? No thank you. 30 minutes is the most I'd ever be willing to do and even that would be pushing it. Right now my commute is about 5 minutes or so. If I hit the green light when crossing the highway, it's 2 minutes. (that's RARE though)

Very hard to afford a commute within 5 minutes of my work. Any home would be 1mil+ in the immediate area and my rent would double.

I'm currently at a 25 minute commute each way if there isn't traffic.. With traffic it'll jump to 45 minutes to an hour.

Right now, I average just shy of 60 hours a week. Or, 56-57 if you don't count lunches. (For my real job - not counting work on the farm which is a few more hours a week)

This 1000 times.

My last employer once told me that's what team players do - always be or make themselves available to work OT, period. That lead to long days for me, lots of stress, and a serious dislike of the job and near burnout.

The downside of that is that it will always be expected from you once you start doing it.

Now I have a 40-hour work week, no overtime encouraged or even needed for that matter, and when my work is done for the day, I can go right on home (whether it's at noon or my usual end time of 4:30) and still get the full 40 in pay.

Love it. Nearly no stress, work I enjoy, and get plenty of time for my wife and recreation.

That sounds amazing.

My average for 2012 was about 64. Max was 93, min was 44. Typically they are about 58 or so, but the spikes drag the average up. November and early December was kinda crappy, with 70-80 hr weeks strung back-to-back.

Mostly in the 50-60 range, but sometimes more.

I don't get paid by the hour, though.
