How long to call back?

After you apply for a job how long do you usually expect it to take for them to call you back if at all? Most of the time they always call me back within the week or week and a half. My friend is saying they usually take up to a month. I don't buy that. What's the deal? I applied to a job Monday, and haven't heard anything now by Friday and I'm getting a little dissapointed. I have followed up on it, also. When I went in, I talked to the manager, handed a nicely done CV and Cover letter also, and it looked promising. But after a week I start to wonder, thinking they're not gonna call at all. And they did have openings, they were advertising in the paper. And I am perfectly qualified for the job.. plenty of experience, etc. There's absolutely no reason they SHOULDN'T hire me, and I woulda thought that my cover letter would have made it for sure.. So am I being dissapointed for nothing or should I just wait longer? I really wanna know if I'm gonna get this job or not. A lot depends on it.

A lot depends on the company. For where I work, it took them three months to call Chelsea after she applied.

God damn. I don't want to wait long for this stinking job. Oh well, at least I have the highest chance of getting it as is possible. I guess I can just wait. In the mean time I should check out some others..

whenever i apply to a job, i give them one week at most to call me back...but usually i'll call 3 days after and just ask if there's any word yet on the status of my application....and unless they straight out tell me that they're turning me down...i call again when the week is up....yea...i'm a pushy bastard like that...haha...i hate replies like "we'll get back to you" or "haven't heard anything yet"....i just want either an acceptance or a turn down...plain and simple...

Exactly... I hate to be told "we'll get back to you". urgh.

The last job I interviewed for (actually got an offer too), they took over a little over a month to call me after I sent my resume. Then after the interview, they told me I would hear from them in 24-48 hours. I finally heard from them over two weeks later, when they called to offer me the job.

Holy bastardization! Oh well, guess I can only wait. The bad part is, whether or not I continue college for this semester depended on this job. If I get the job halfway through the semester, that's not too good, as they're looking more for full-time. We'll see though. If I can go through these next two semesters AND keep this job part-time then I don't care. But I WOULD prefer to work full time this year, save up some money over the next couple years, and go to a private technical school (focus on something specific that I want to do rather than waste my time at this general ed college).

dang!...i would hate that...hehe...if they told me 24-48 hrs...i woulda been on their backs 48 hrs later...hehe...but if they told me a couple of weeks, then fine...

I didn't call them because I didn't want the job. I actually turned it down when they offered it.
