I'm a believer in that you should meet people doing what you enjoy doing. Whether it be video games, dancing, small talk, meeting new friends, blind dates, whatever it be, you should enjoy it and thus enjoy the people you meet.

Although, I misread the poll wrong and voted for when I thought it would be normal, I voted for 4 years but it may be longer than that.

Dear God, I hope the answer is never.

Go out and meet people!

By meeting people online and getting together in person, that is technically "going out and meeting people."

I voted 1 year. My cuddle buddy is all freaked out about people "finding out we met online", so he's insisting we tell anyone who asks we met in the coffee shop where we arranged to meet after exchanging a few e-mails. Silly boy.

Is this the chess guy? so did things work out with him?

Chess guy (on the right). He wants to get together again, but I just didn't experience any sparks with him when we met... if anything, we'll just be friends.

Cuddle buddy. We had our first "date" last night... went out for sushi in Old Town Pasadena, missed the movie we were going to watch, and ended up driving to Walmart so I could buy my birds some treats (he bought me "Finding Nemo"). We definitely have chemistry, and he's a fun conversationalist... I wish he could dance, but other than that, it's working out extremely well. He wants to be bf/gf, but I think it's a little too soon for that. We'll see...

I figure it'll be like 2 more years or so, as more and more people realize that it's a reasonable means of meeting "normal" people.

i personally think it will happen when the vast majority of the non-internet generation takes their last breath. then and only then.

till then, there will be people that dont view it as a viable option.

hell, i dont really view it as a viable option.

(and that says a lot considering where it's coming from...)

I see it as acceptable for others but not myself. It's a personal pride thing. It's like admitting to myself that I can't meet girls normally so I have to meet them online. I think if I ever dated a girl online I wouldn't be able to tell any of my friends because I'd feel like a loser...

Perhaps to some people, being set up by your friends means you can't do it on your own and need to have your romantic interests handed to you. Kinda spineless, eh?

Being that I'm in IT, and enjoy using the computer (tho' yes, I do enjoy "real life" much more ), are you saying you think meeting someone via the Internet is fine?

I enjoy drinking & going to bars and clubs, but, perhaps it's just me, but I think I'm more likely to find someone more, um, 'wholesome' or suitable to what I'm looking for via the Internet, than at the bar.
