How long will Gillette be able to profit from their insanely overpriced razors?

With things like dollar shave club and local store chains offering generic alternatives that are just as good that are about 1/4 or less of the price. I have to wonder how long it will be before people wise up and stop buying their crap.

Forever. Most people like the convenience and quality.

And you can get crappy generic razors at a grocery store too.

This. Their razors work and the price is pretty much inconsequential in most people's lives.

People buy $6 lattes and spend $20 for gold in Clash of Clans. A few bucks for a razor won't break you.

Forever. I just bought some overpriced Gillette's & I'm glad I did. I got a big box of the Dorco razors from Slickdeals (the ones that Dollar Shave Club apparently uses) & they are like cheap windshield wipers...just not as smooth as the good brands. Tug on your skin, kinda hurts, just don't do as good of a job. Went back to Gillette after a month of using the Dorcos, soooo happy I did. Worth the money!

Also learned a good tip from the Slickdeals Dorco thread - dry off your Gillette after every use & it can last up to a year! I've been doing that and the blade has stayed good so far, which is awesome. And if you think about it, the Gillettes are really only expensive in your head...$20 for a 4-pack, and a blade typically lasts what, at least a month? So you're really paying five bucks a month for a sharp razor. I can live with that. It IS annoying when you buy that tiny little package for so much money at the store though

I'd say that was true at one time but the Care One brand at Giant I think is pretty comprable.

Every dollar I save on stuff I don't care about is a dollar I can use for something fun. It's like free money. I bought a straight razor ~25 years ago. If I had to guess, I've spent less than $5 a year on shaving, including expendables like soap.

I am some glad I don't have to live the way you do. No wonder you can't afford a proper Windows operating system.

You're a wal-mart worker are you? More to the point, do you have a job?

As long as folks keep buying them.

I shave about once a week, and use disposable razors.

I usually grow a full beard for January and February so perhaps I only shave about 45 times a year, no wonder the razors last so long.

Best razor I have ever used, wish I'd done it decades ago.

Have been using it awhile now, beats the piss out of the vast majority of things.

I Do need a better razor though. i have a gillete DE adjustable. but i would like a fat handle. At times the one i have is a pain to use because of my arthritis.

I also love the persona blades. i prefer the red package though.

Gilette blades aren't expensive in the long run, I went saftey razor route and spend more per year on shaving than I did when I used Mach 5. I now spend next to nothing on blades, but the soap I use is 20x the price of the cheap shit I used when I used store bought razors. Then I have pre-shave gels which I never used before, and after shave creams and balms which cost 10x the price I spent on store shit.

if I had to estimate I spend $300 a year shaving with my safety razor. Mach 5's + store brand shaving cream would be a drop in the bucket compared to that. And all the generic store brand knock off blades I've tried have sucked ballz.

I've tried a lot of soaps, the cheap shit creates janky ass lather. I spend more than I need to, but shaving isn't about cutting corners and being cheap to me. I've tried everything I could find in stores, and everything I could find online until I got to the product line up I'm at.

I've been using Kroger's generic mach 3 disposables called speed 3s for years. They are great. Just bought a 4 pack for I think $5.
