How long will you change your mobile phone?

The new generation of mobile phones of different brands comes one after another, which make us feel overwhelmed. so what‘s your frequency of changing your mobile phone? Which brands would you tend to buy next? Are you going to buy iPhone 5S?

It depends. I think we're pretty much saturated on features now, there's not much more I can imagine adding to modern phones. They already have high-resolution color screens, decent battery life, Wi-fi, 4G, Bluetooth, NFC, fingerprinter readers, front & rear cameras with a flash, touchscreens, lots of onboard storage, all kinds of crazy apps, and are slim enough to fit in your pocket without burning your leg off.

I'm pretty happy with my iPhone 4S. I did have an iPhone 5, but the purple haze issue on the camera forced me to sell it, so I'm hoping the 5S fixes that problem. But if not, I won't be too put out by keeping my 4S, because it's a great phone. In years past, I think it was a bigger issue, because battery life was really short, the feature set was small, and new technology was coming out all the time. Especially with stuff like the new Samsung Galaxy S4 with a 5" screen, I can't imagine stuffing too many other features into a phone other than like a holographic screen or something. I think we've kind of hit market saturation at this point and the rest of the upgrades will be iterative - better battery life, faster memory & CPU (it can take up to 30 seconds to save some photos I edit in Camera+ on my 4S), higher-resolution cameras, etc. But it's not like stuff stinks today - the Galaxy S4 has like a 13-megapixel camera and a lot of screens now are at least 720p, so it's not like we're really hurting in terms of features these days.

Used to be every year by using staggered upgrades on my family plan and passing on the older phone to my wife who doesnt care about having a new phone. Now that I am paying retail so I can keep unlimited it's going to be every two years. Skipping the 5S and waiting for the 6, my 5 will do just fine.

Usually about once a year, might be longer this go around but sometimes I get the itch to change things up. I use my phone quite a bit though, so IMO it's worth the $$.

Quite a problematic issue for me. I have had bad experience with my Samsung recently, so I had to change it quite often. Till that case I changed it every year or two, depending on my budget.

All depends if google will continue the practice of dropping the price on the nexus line before they roll out the new model. Had my GN for a year. Anticipate keeping my N4 a little longer than that, but at $250 it isn't sticker shock to get a new phone a year from now.

I've been changing every two years. But my Droid bionic is holding up very well, and nobody has yet released a phone with the gobs of storage necessary to replace my ancient Zune. Getting close, though...

I had my HTC Desire until it started rebooting spontaneously, then I got the LG Optimus 2X which I kept until I dropped it, shattering the screen.

Now I have a Galaxy S3 and I don't feel the need to upgrade anytime soon. Specs-wise, it's fine for my needs - plenty of storage, CPU and GPU power, nice big screen, JB 4.1 officially, 4.2 unofficially. I use the phone for Facebook, web browsing etc.

Iphone on release
3G on release
skipped the 3GS as it didn't add anything extra for me
4 on release
skipped the 4S as again it didn't give me anything
skipped the 5 as well
skipping the 5S

I'll get the 6 as my 4 is getting seriously long in the tooth now. It feels slow and I'm always removing apps that are running in the background, coupled with my home button not working, I have the onscreen home button. I can't really justify getting a 5S when it's going to cost me £710 for the phone.

It's crazy how much new phones and a contract costs.
£710
£24x24 (rolling contracts for me)
=£1258 for 2yrs! That is an average of £54 a month! f0ck!

But if I was to get the phone on contract it would be for 2yrs and my line rental would increase from £24 to £31 but I'd get a subsidy for the phone. The 5 was 64GB for £199, no idea what the price of the 5S would be but I'm guessing it will no more than what the 5S cost at launch.

I can't justify that now in my business situation, but when I was working for an investment bank I literally did not give a f0ck. I'd upgrade about once every 2yrs to get the new phone and new features.

Every 2 years. In the last case it was around 2.5 years since the iPhone5 came out later than expected.

Every six months or so. Sell the current phone while it's still worth a good amount and use that money to get the next phone. Rinse and repeat. Waiting two years just doesn't work for me as I don't like extending contracts and waiting that long means your phone loses a lot of value.

I have been averaging 18 months, but I might hold onto my S4 longer than that. Before I could always imagine better the day I got a new phone - better camera, bigger screen, etc. But with the S4 I really can't imagine what would be a REAL upgrade.

My next mobile device will be a tablet, probably an N7 next year.

No, it really doesn't.

I upgrade when the benefits of the new the phone I am considering are worth the price I have to pay to get it.

last time i changed was last december so i'm going a little early, but it was mostly because my friend lost his gnex and it was a good excuse to get a new phone and sell him my gnex so his wife wouldnt know haha.

I picked a low end phone as my first smart phone (mainly due to budget), the HTC Desire C. It is slow and sluggish at times. My dad's Samsung Galaxy S2 seems pretty snappy. I've had a play around on a few iPhones as well. Ideally I'd like to get something like the S2, but the budget is still a bit tight for such extravagances.

Droid Razr Maxx HD here. It's pretty much a flawless phone. Newer phones like the One and S4 offer no benefits that outweigh the loss in battery life that making the switch would have. I'm probably going to keep this for another year or two and then buy whatever the best Android phone with >3000MAH battery is at that time.

I upgrade when my current phone stops working for me (either dies, or can't do what I need it to do any more). There's really no reason to do anything else except for the "shiny new toy" factor (which does matter for some people).

I was replacing very often once I got going with the S2. Then Nexus, S3, iPhone 4S, Note 2, Nexus 4, iPhone 5, S4 (even had a Blackberry for a day) and then stopped once I got the HTC One. Kind of got into buying and selling phones on XDA, then CTO then Swappa for awhile and could never find one that just "fit" me, until the One.

That being said, I got the itch for the Note 3 or Nexus 5, but the One has been as close to a perfect phone as I have used. If it had a smaller bezel around the edges so that the screen was slightly larger without making the body larger it would be ideal.

I may use my upgrade that has been available since June on the Note 3 to try it out as the Note 2 and Nexus 4 were previous phones that were also excellent.

I subscribe to the buy and try theory as you really can't tell how a phone is for you unless you use it as your daily driver for a week or two.

It used to be every 2 years for me, but more recently I've changed my outlook to upgrading whenever I feel compelled to. I was happy with my Galaxy S3 for about six months, but then had to have a Note 2. Now I'm probably going to sell that and get a Note 3.

That'll be 3 Samsung phones in a row for me, but I don't really care about the brand per se. I just want what I want and if someone else were to make what I prefer I'd jump brands in a heartbeat.

For me, I think I've just replaced a little bit of my computer geekiness with phone geekiness. I used to upgrade my computers more often, but now I find I leave them alone. Meanwhile, I'd rather have a phone that holds my interest rather than getting bored with the same thing for 2 years.
