that card supposedly has a high power target than the reference gtx670 too. I actually pulled the trigger on that card too but I am not sure if it went through or not. for some reason the mastercard secure code would not work and failed on me but newegg actually shows it was successfully charged. I guess I will know in the morning. grrr
I thought you didn't like the pricing of this round of cards...
Then again, I thought none of us did.
yeah I certainly dont like the pricing but it is what it is. and it looks like it could be quite a while before something better comes along. hopefully I can get a good price for my gtx570 to help ease the pain in my stomach for spending over 400 bucks for a gpu. lolI thought you didn't like the pricing of this round of cards...

My evga 670 with the blower fan has a fairly loud hum/grind quality to it. Knew this going in given the reviews.
Already have Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo II in hand (you can get this for ~$40 in the US) but haven't had the time to install it yet.

well it shipped but I am going to let my bank know what I think about securecode.Yeah, that is a PITA, it's hard to remember the password for a system that you only see once in a blue moon on newegg.
By the way, is the Windforce inaudible at idle? what RPM does it idle at?
Not sure what the RPM is idle, but mine is at 22 to 24% fan speed at idle. At that speed it is fairly inaudible. I don't think I have seen them climb above 35% for Skyrim and that is with a max temp of 45 celsius. Ambient temperature is about 72 degrees with two 120 mm case fans for intake, a 140 mm top fan, and a 120 mm rear fan. All of them are set to low for a fairly inaudible setup. I used to have the case fans set between medium and high and I couldn't hear the hard drive. Now I can hear the hard drive click when in use. I am extremely happy with the 670 Windforce, and I don't think I will ever go back to loud cooling solutions. Given the Windforce costs $399, I see no reason to go with the reference design.
EVGA is actually cross-shipping me a new 670 for this very reason. You might want to give them a call to see if they can make it right for you.
I'll report back once I have a chance to test the new one. If it has the same grinding, I'll either have to deal with it or pay for a stepup to a 680. Honestly, if they're all like this, it simply isn't acceptable - I've heard smoother fans on $50 cards.
let us know what your experience is with the new card, but i'm thinking its just the way these cards are given the reviews
Well at 30 percent in desktop it will be silent. But once you game and if it goes to 80 or 100 percent fan speed then it sounds like a JET!!! just like cards before it.
I would manually control that fan with a app.... 30 percent in desktop and 100 percent gaming,, it will sound like a jet but you have headphones on or are listening to music you cant tell.. gl
I agree entirely. Let me add that I went to Logitech G35 headsets for this reason AND that the sound is so much better for gaming (plus you don't need a spoundcard or even internal sound the headset has its own sc).Why do you post crap when you have no clue? The cards NEVER spin up to 100% and you can't even force it to 100% only 80% (through EVGA PrecisionX anyway). I've never seen temps high enough for the fan to go above 65%. It's not that loud.
Also I just don't understand. If you are gaming do you never have sound on? How can you actually hear the card over your games? Honestly my case fans are louder than any video card I've ever heard at idle.
I have to laugh at all this "noise" talk. Noisier than what? I run fans to keep my machines cool. There is always a trade off from more sound and cooler temps. I read some of these posts where so and so OCs the heck of of his card but has to run the fan at a higher speed for it to be stable and the fan is noisy. No S .... Sherlock! What do you expect.
I decided to go to higher end headphones for gaming (Logitech G35s). Not the most expensive but very good Headphones. When I game, I don't notice the "noise" from the fans cranking up because of the headphones. Also I have a seperate room for my computers so my wife could care less what the sound level is.
I think people tend to exaggerate a bit about the sound. Heck if you want sound install one of those Delta server fans in your case THEN we can talk noisy!
You may not appreciate it, but there are many of us who appreciate a quiet gaming card. What's frustrating is that nvidia cheaped out on the reference cooling when gigabyte offers at the same price a card that is much quieter for the same price as reference. The problem is the dang card is rarer than hens teeth.

Cheaped out compared to what. If we look at reference cards from AMD and nVidia. 670 is one of the most quiet. Are we gonna call HD7970, HD7950, HD5870, Geforce 470, 570 and 580 for dustbusters? And if 670 is a jetengine, what are those? A spacerocket launch?
