How loud is a Radeon9800XT?

Hi,
I'm looking into getting a Radeon900XT. However, I've heard that the higher end graphics cards can be painfully loud. Does anyone have a Radeon9800XT, or have experience with them, and know if this is the case?
Thanks,
Justin

Sapphire makes a heatpipe-cooled "ultimate" model that is fanless and silent, reviewed recently at HardOCP.com.

The Asus model has software-controllable fans that can be set very quiet when you aren't gaming

ATI, not sure about the noise, you might try reading a few reviews if no one else answers you.

Finally, April/May will bring the new ATI and NVidia models, you might want to see how much faster they are before spending $400+ on a card.

I have the HERCULES 9800XT...it is very quiet.

I believe all the 9800XTs are the same, except for the ASUS's card.

The tiny fans used on vga coolers are loud.

If you want quiet get the Sapphire mentioned earlier which uses THIS cooler.

I wasn't aware that video cards made noise. I thought it was the fan on them that made the noise.

Yes, I know. My jokes suck

My Sapphire 9800 Pro is dead quiet, (or it could be my 35DBA Heatsink setup).

Wow. I would hardly call 35dB quiet. My system is under 30dB and I still think it's noisy really noisy. This is due to the fan on my 9600 Pro because everything else is dead silent. However a heatpipe should be coming by Thursday.

35dba is hardly quiet, but maybe you're used to having a lot of noise around you.

not being able to hear the fan on the gfx card because the one on your heat_sink is loud doesn't make the other fan silent

The only fans inside my case, including the powersupply, are (6) Panaflo L1A's (21dB). I still consider the system a little on the "loud" side in my quiet home office. 35dB may be quiet to you but to most folks, including myself, it is extremely noisy.

I have 2 80mm Panaflo L1A's, 1 92mm L1A, my NF7-S NB Fan and a ThermalTake PurePower 420W PSU (quiet according to Anandtech) running.

I noticed a huge sound difference between my Leadtek Ti4400 and my new Sapphire 9800 Pro. The Pro is much much quieter and I noticed the drop in sound over my other fans.

Jeeeeez, 6 80mm fans? Yikes. I only have 5 of them, turned all the way down on a Vantec fan controller. Puts the panaflos at around 700rpm I think... Using a Zalman Power supply and a Zalman 7000Cu. I think the sound of my fans vibrating the case is the loudest part now... I've isolated my drives w/ sorbothane...

I'm not sure why you are amazed at the fact I have 6 Panaflo L1A's (2 intake, 2 exhaust, 1 on the cpu, 1 in the power supply), which are extremely quiet case fans. My video card uses a heatsink only. You have a total of 7 fans running in your case.

I'm using a BBA 9800 XT at stock speed. It is very quiet. I can barely hear the fan. Also, people sometime report that the card gets real hot. I haven't experienced this (my case temps stay between 34 to 49C). Just don't look at the temperature shown in the ATI Overdrive control panel (it is incorrect, take about 20C off the value). Overall, I'm very pleased with the 9800XT and would highly recommend it to any serious gamer.
