Ok, I'm going to ask a dumb question...
I'm looking to use this with the GA-965P-DS3. Newegg lists the following under the motherboard specs
"Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets"
This memory is listed on Newegg as "Timing 4-4-4-12, Voltage 2.2V"
Will this RAM work and does this mean I'll need to bump the voltage up?
Thanks
Yeah, that's been tripping me out too. I was considering buying this ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220144
for a DS3, and it's timing is 444, but there's several comments I remember reading that said it works great with the DS3. Weird . . .
Here's some excerpts for the Patriot ram with the 444 timing:
Pros: Recognized right out of the box by my GA-965P-DS3, ran flawlessly at the default specs (1.8v, 5-5-5-15).
Cons: Absolutely not stable at the advertised specs. 2.2v, 4-4-4-12 @ 800MHz, and I get bizarre symptoms like random computer restarts, program crashes, you name it. Memtest gets no errors at 5-5-5-15 timings, and millions at the lower timings. I thought it was bad RAM, so I RMA'd it and got a replacement - no dice. Same problem, so it seems like a fundamental flaw.
Other Thoughts: If you're looking for 4-4-4-12 DDR2-800, keep looking. This won't perform as advertised.
Pros: Ok let me just say this stuff has been great, I tryed geil 1000 ram,g.skill 800, on the 965p ds3 rev3.3 m/b,this ram has not let me down,If you have a DS3 m/b I highly recommend this memory, I'm running a 6300 duo at 458 fsb 3.2ghz, stock settings on memory 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v ,that's with a memory divider at 2.0 which ends up setting the memory @ 1:1 or 916mhz, cpu volts @ 1.4 , Im running the swiftech apogee, and the swiftech n/b water blocks, idel temps at 27c cpu,n/b @ 41c, I hope this helps those out there that might be having problems with there memory ,this stuff has solved my problems.
Cons: none thus far
Other Thoughts: the gigabyte m/b is picky on memory. If your after high fsb rates, this memory will do the trick, and at this price its the best deal on the planet at the moment for fast ddr2.
I guess you can increase the latency without any problems, but decreasing it is scary. Still seems strange though considering the board description makes it sound like it has to be factory 5-5-5 or 6-6-6
